I have been digging around but cannot find a definitive answer.

Has there been a patch released for the VW phone system to enable it to link to a blackberry?

(Or my iPhone for that matter?)

Last time I asked I managed to get lucky and be given a phone that worked.

This was upgraded by work and guess what? the new one will not connect all the time.

Thanks

im guessing you've got the factory fitted rSap bluetooth system Dave? (the one most VW salesmen don't realise isn't actually 'proper' bluetooth)

VW have only just this year (early june/week 22) changed their factory fitted bluetooth from rSap (a nokia thing) to full bluetooth. The options people have who have the rsap version but want to revise it are:
- change the rsap box under the passenger seat out for the new bluetooth box or the Skoda bluetooth box
- fit fiscon or the like as retrofit

let me know if you want parts numbers as I have access to them on my other 'home'

Hope that explains it

Super, the parts numbers would be great.

Am sure work will pick up the tab as they insisted on the full telcom package whilst I wanted a Parrot system.

Hi,

Can anyone confirm that the new BT units are being fitted to VW's?

I've just held up the lease of 10 VW Passat's because of information found regarding the rSAP issue and iPhones.

All engineers in our company use iPhones and I, and a lot of other guys, chosen Passat's with bluetooth as new company cars.

I'm assuming that any car ordered in the next two weeks will be fitted with the new HFV kit as they probably won;t even get built for another month!

The VW Passat PDF now states

"The Bluetooth telephone preparation system with detachable 2.8 inch touch-screen allows you to make and receive telephone calls
without having to take your eyes off the road. It acts as an interface of the mobile phone menu connected to it and is compatible with
most Bluetooth enabled phones†, including iPod and Blackberry."

I'm assuming it means the iPhone! But the fact they specify blackberry's which also hate RSAP is encouraging.

Cheers

Tony
Do not believe a word they say.

VW told me the same thing 18 months ago.

Yes you can get it to work on some Blackberry phones. And not by type, two handsets of the same model phone and one will work and one will not.

Don't expect full functionality.

Don't expect your phone not to switch off, lose sim connection or generally bugger around when you get out of the car.

Don't expect, even if you get a handset that works with the system that it will do it every time.

That is my experience so far. I was promised that there were patches being released (hence the thread) that have not materialised.

Do not bank on the reference to the Ipod not being correct as I CAN connect my iPod and control it, make sure they are not talking about this. My iPhone is listed as incompatible, maybe the iPhone 4 is different?

In hindsight the best thing to have done would have been to go and try a demo car and see if I could connect. But even then you run the risk of that being the 1 time out of 50 the bloody thing works.
