Attempted theft, Car torched.

Some sad news I'm afraid.

At 4AM yesterday I was woken by a car horn followed by an explosion. I didn't even have to look out of the bedroom window to see the flames it was so bright.

The Police reckon someone was trying to make off with my car (a Griffith, less than a year old, only 5000 miles on the clock) when they failed to start it they decided to torched it.

Needless to say no one saw a thing, but a couple of my neighbours claim to have heard voices outside before the horn started.

As you can imagine, I'm gutted.

Hardly sounds a professional job does it? You'll probably find (if plod ever catches up with them - unlikely) that they were kids, and the little turds have been up in court befoer but can't be jailed.

I am brand new to PH today and your story is really sad. Hopefully a new one awaits soon.
I have just bought ( collecting Friday hopefully) a Griffith 500 1997 and wonder if I could seek some advice on any additional security measures I could take to prevent theft. The car will be kept garaged and blocked in by another car overnight (it will be with me during the day).

Short of it being hoisted out through the garage skylight I'd say you're safe in the darker hours there Simon.

'With me' means what tho? Company car park, on the road outside the office? Or do you mean you'll always be in it?

Bad luck, its a terrible thing and probably little consolation at the moment but at least you weren't hurt, you can replace the car and as I've said before, the people who did this will never own or appreciate such a machine.

I'm sure that given enough time and money, TVR could make you one. They still ahve the moulds and jigs, for example.

Anyway, they not all gone. Hawthorns have a Moonraker black Griffith (car no. 51) ex-demonstrator still for sale (or was a few weeks ago anyway) and I believe they have car no. 97 earmarked and due for delivery to the showroom very soon.

MickeyT- I didn't think of the skylight!!
During the day it wil be in a locked underground carpark.

I previously had a Boxster (company) and the thief b**** moved my girlfriends Audi and then stole my car. I did not hear a thing. As this one is my own I am a little more cautious- is there any on car security that can be added?

Very sorry to hear that. This is the first time I raed about attempted theft on a Tiv. The fact that the insurance will only consider this as a car only adds to the pain.
