I'm pleased you found the NGK BPR6EIX iridium gave noticeable improvements in throttle response, once you have corrected your base idle you should find the car starts better cold & idles far smoother too.

A definitive test would be to fit a new set of NGK BP6ES plugs, then run the engine until warm, let it idle, and then disconnect the stepper, so the idle is fixed, and note what it is. Then swap the plugs to the iridium ones and see if the new idle is higher (make sure the engine temp is the same). Funny they should witter on about the conductivity of any particular metal (silver in this case) as you have plug leads that are 10K's ohms resistance, resistive shrouds, and possibly resitive plugs, so the resistance of the plug core is completely negligible in comparison, even if it where wet string. Sounds like sales rubbish to me.

They seem to have a random number generator to work out the cost fo 8 spark plugs. Goes from 9.99 each to over £90 for 8.leylandracer said:

I guarantee you these plugs will be total rubbish.Stick with a trusted name, & the best in the business is NGK.

My idle issue feels like something mechanical sticking. This morning I started the car and had an 1800 rpm tickover within 30 seconds of leaving my drive way. With the engine warm i noticed that i could pull the idle down by letting in the clutch an bit, and it then stayed low. Occasionally you can feel something electronic is trying to correct it, but the bulk of the issue feels like it is mechanical and is something sticking. In for service on Monday, I will get Mat to look at it for me.
