Gaskets were £25 (Steel) don't know how much to fit as I had some other stuff done at the same time. See profile Sept 2001

If Only :-)

This is actually the manifold itself which is blowing and needs replacing

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. I think you may get a large bill for that one.

£510pr S/S £410pr Mild. These are direct replacements for original so any local garage should be able to fit them without the need for TVR dealer labour rates

Sorry that should have been £425 for mild steel

When I had mine replaced in 1999 the TVR ones cost £220.24 + VAT each. That's for a 4.3 though.

Whilst on the subject of manifolds has anyone had a bespoke tuned one made as this seems to be an area for improvement on the standard. Heard tell that a 1.25" bore instead of the usual TVR over bored 1.5" with matched primary lengths would release a healthy amount of latent power, just a thought if you've got to replace them .
Any one hazzard a guess to prices for such a thing or even better someone making them for Tivs now .

Will be fitting reduced bore to mine soon and testing , they wont cost any more than standard.
BTW manifolds can be supplied separately, if its only one that needs replacing.

What sort of figure are we looking at for these then Tim, I assume that because there will be less metal in them, they'll be cheaper .
btw booked for final RR on PM slot tues 22nd, maybe see you there if you're bored.

The extra profit from using less metal will go towards my retirement fund,
Cheers Tim

People,

As usual, thanks for all your info. & advice.

The car is currently being serviced at Top Cat Racing, and I am very pleased with the level of service.

Apparently, the manifold is "shot to bits" so although it would be cheaper to weld it, it could go again in a month, and then it would need replacing anyway.

BTW, my car is a 4.3, so I assume TVR would have to make one up, as 500's would not fit!?!?

Also, I understand that labour will be quite pricey as far as this job is concerned.

Cheers,

Martin

Martin the pre cat and 500 manifolds are completely different and there are 2 different pre cat configurations. My manifolds are manufactured to fit both and are suitable for 4.3BV. Labour charges should not be too horrific because although it is a fiddly job you are only unbolting one and replacing it with the same

All the pre-cat manifolds are the same, to fit both manifolds is about 2-3 hrs, unless the bolts are badly siezed into the head and either strip the thread or snap, unfortunately not uncommon.
i would assume then that both manifolds are "shot"?.

I don't want to go into too much detail, but I am in "discussion" with the garage I bought the car from, because when I purchased the car two months ago, one manifold was shot, and was replaced, and now 2000 miles later the other one is now completely shot, and the mechanic seems to think that the non-replaced one should have been replaced as well.

I think it was a genuine mistake, so I am after an explanation......

What do other people think...is it very unlikely that something like this could happen ie. one manifold goes, and the other one, which looked fine two months ago, goes completely 2000 miles later???

Cheers,

Martin

Tim I think you will find the PCD of the 8 bolts is slightly different on early cars( not very but enough to make them not interchangeabl)

They are because new JP ones are slotted.

Exactly , that is because the original factory ones are not the same on early cars
