RoseyTvr has very kindly offered to send me on loan a Griff Servo and Master Cylinder for assessment (thanks again Ian). When I have it I shall make a full assessment and buy some cheap 2nd hand KA and other units to assess for fitment. Don't expect anything too soon but will keep you all posted on the progress over the coming two or thee months. My aim if possible is to draw up and make a modification/adaptor kit which will enable the use of other units with the Griff pedal assembly etc. If successful will offer the kit to the Griff fraternity. Why is it so difficult to stick a similar one in ? won`t the hydraulics fit ?

Size of servo (affects assistance), hole spacing (fit to bulkhead), length of pedal arm (fit to brake pedal), etc.

Quite a few variables to consider - you'd imagine that they'd be quite a few Ford ones that would fit but it doesn't seem that simple - which is a pain!

As GadgeS3C has said, there are many variables. Until I start assessing the kit I cannot comment fully, but there is the size and mounting of the servo (both for fitment to pedal assembly and master cylinder fitment). The relationship between the servo and master cylinder and of course the plastic reservoir all come into play, let alone the actuating shaft which must fit the pedal and actually fit the servo, all at the correct length, shape and diameter. I believe there are other servo units from the Ford parts bin that may be suitable, but adaptors and shafts will have to be made to make it work with the existing Grif pedal assembly and the cut out in the inner wing that the reservoir fits into (though this could be modified a bit). Also rod push ratio. Ka weighs about 900 kg so hopefully unlikely to be a problem. KA servo is ok for T cars anyway. Unless there is a gorilla driving and stamping on the brake ending in a 4 wheel skid. Also see the SH Bible for adjustment. Page 179 Adjusting pedal play.

UPDATE - Car is now back from Phil at PR Woods. New brake servo and master cylinder fitted. Turns out the old servo had rotted from the inside and was really not in good shape....

To be perfectly honest, no. I always struggle when getting in the Griff after driving the daily as I have always found the brakes in the Griff lack that positive initial bite that you get from modern systems and need a good shove to get working. After a couple of days of driving the daily I get in the Griff and always get a shock when a brake at the end of my road and the car keeps on going! I didn't really notice the difference after having braided hoses, new brake fluid, and new pads either.

I doesn't bother me too much a the car has so much engine braking I only really use the brakes to pull up to stop once I have gone down the gears.

Matt, you amaze me. My Chimaera brakes feel excellent to me, and I am comparing standard 4.0 Chimaera brakes with front dinner plates in my daily Audi A8. I know other people who have driven my car on the track deplore the lack of brakes compared to their upgraded Brembos, but with Toyo 888s on the wheels i get great stopping power when standing on the brakes. If you are coming to Cadwell Park for the TVRCC track day you are most welcome to try my car on the track and see how it compares.....though it will by then have more brakes, as I am giving in to pressure and am swapping the Ford Escort front pads (£12.99) for Ferodo DS2500s (£90)

Well done matthe. At least you will not have to worry about those now for some time.

If there is a slight leak from the mc it will leak fluid into the servo which can cause it to rot from the inside. Nasty stuff that brake fluid.

yes Especially if the brake fluid is knackered and as absorbed plenty of moisture (brake-fluids hygroscopic) sorry Carsy not teaching you how to suck eggs wink

Maybe I am expecting too much, I have already fitted braided brake hoses, Mintex R compound pads all round and ATE DOT 4 synthetic brake fluid and they still lack in bite and need a good shove.

I have my eye on the David Gerald 4 pot conversion that fits underneath the original 15" wheels.

Many thanks for the offer Anthony, very kind of you. I did want to book the track day this year but unfortunately I in serious man point deficit as I am away at Santa Pod for the weekend before and BNG the week after. I don't think there is a chance of me being let out to play on Monday as well!

-1 for the rotton servo!
