Anybody here had any work done by this company? www.therollcagepeople.com

I'm still thinking of having one fitted that is not cosmetic only (Leven).

The only other company I have spoken to, to date, is Tower View Racing, re cost etc.

First time i have heared of these and seen the pick on the Griffith, It looks quite ood for a rollcage and they look like they have got quite a bit of expierence.
Theres been many talk of rollbars in the griffith and Chimeara forums and this company havet been mention to my recolection.
I have a rollcentre on on mine fitted by rollcentre.

How much sre they charging??

That cross member at the rear? does that just sit againts the rear parcle shelf?? cant see that there is anything there to fix too.

It's actually just a roll bar not a full cage I am after, in the same finish as the 2 Alloy roof stays, which I have yet to find a piccy of!

Price quoted was £650+VAT, £763+VAT with the powder coated alloy finish.....

The problem with that design again is the proximity of the bars to the seat and head again. Been covered before in the archives but it is such an important aspect to get right.

Wouldn't you want it inside the car though, rather than on the drive?

Not keen on the 'industrial look' myself, but their credentials seem ok.

I've got the Rollcentre bar in mine. Not cheap, but I've seen a couple from 'other suppliers' and the welding has been a bit

Pretty sure that's Digga's bar on their website. Digga started a thread about the bar when it was first done - in the last 6 months I think. Try a search.

It was £919 fitted (aluminium powder coated). I have pics but don't get on with Fotango If someone wants to host them for me... Otherwise, loads of people took pics at the Griff Growl, and Silverstone TVR took some pics to show a customer. Maybe they could post (no numberplate please)

FWIW, my background is materials engineering, particularly fatigue and fracture mechanics. I left all that behind about 6 years ago so am very rusty (no pun intended) but still am quite anal about safety critical stuff.

As (bad) luck would have it, I saw a Chimaera go off an embankment earlier this year (landed on his wheels thank God), and my ar$e caved in, thought I was going to find him dead. After that, it was really either flog the Griff, or drive like an old biddy, or put a roll bar in. No-brainer really.

I had a look at a couple of market offerings (mail me to find out who) and was appalled at the quality of fabrication, in particular the welding, which was shocking and which I could have knocked apart with a 2lb copper hammer - lack of penetration. The company I now work for has a team of specialist accident investigators of whom some are structural engineers, so I took their advice. As I say, the one I went for was the Rollcentre bar, fitted by Tower View. Incidentally, the welding on that isn't pretty (I'd have ground it back a bit before coating) but sound as a pound. I didn't look at the one on this thread, but would probably have avoided it because of the joints (nothing wrong, just not pretty enough for a pretty road car - how girly of me!)

I thought that £900 was a bit pricey but there are a few things to take in to account:

The Rollcentre carry a huge amount of expertise and experience, and every sale carries that overhead.

Fitting is no mean feat - ever tried to get the rear carpets out of a Griff without the glue pulling every single tuft out of the canvas? My car came back with an amazing job on the interior - it actually took them longer than quoted, but they honoured their original quote. Stick it on the ramps, and the fitting is a work of art, and mechanically sound. I had the option of fitting by another TVR specialist, but I have the same opinion of this as I do of suspension; if you want it right, give it to the people who do it for a living - they'll do it quicker than someone who's making it up as they go along anyway.

My view (tainted by seeing that accident) was that I could probably get something a couple of hundred quid cheaper, but did I ever want to be heading backwards at the scenery, fast, wondering which of my beneficiaries was going to be glad of that £200?

Tower View can no doubt dig my address out for the gift voucher...

This topic keeps coming up

I was looking at getting a roll bar fitted and was chatting to my old man about it (just to let you know he's been a Police Accident Investigator for the Last 10 years) he said if I was going to use it on a track think about it if not don't bother. He said the chances of rolling the car on the road are VERY VERY small and if you are using the normal seat belt you would hit your head on it and die anyway. He then went on about rear end shunts what happens to your head then!!!!!!! His last comment was if your going to be using full harness and crash hat go for it if not it will have a very good chance of killing you.

Food for thought.

Yep. Exactly the arguments and analysis we went through with Martin Short (Roll Centre) when Tower View and I were prototyping the bar design with him.

The reason the Rollcentre design is the way it is i.e completely behind the seat is so that in a normal shunt you don't hit it but it still offers a high degree of protection in a roll over accident. That does increase the amount of work/complexity and thus cost but it is the only way to do it if all the analysis is done correctly. A lot more to designing a roll bar than just bending metal.

If you look at my profile you'll see a Griff that's been in a roll - can't give any details of how it happened, spoke with the previous owner and he says it was very frightening moving upside down with the grass scrapping his head

I believe that the hoop was in place and took most of the impact.
