Seeing as I need to get the front of the car resprayed due to my ineptnise in being able to take a car out of the garage was wondering about that protective film (armourfend???????) I've seen on the Tuscans and few Fezzers........ anyone had it on they're car?

Nearly bought a Griff with it on and I am afraid it did not look that great - it made the paint job look amateurish (the surface appeared almost like Hammerite) and the edges of the film were all too visible where wax had got stuck. Where the film had been damaged by stones it looked more like my new fridge before taking the wrapping off, so overall I decided against having it done to mine.

Hoov,
I've got it on mine but Paintshield and not Armorfend. Mine was the first Griff done by Paintshield who are nowe the TVR approved supplier, and film is fitted to almost all the demonstrator Saggy's and probably to a lot of road cars. The film was on at the Growl so it must have been pretty good as not many seemed to comment.

Speak to Tom at Paintshield as I know he was after a pre cat as the nose is different. Tell him I sent you. He will do you a better deal if you can find someone else too. Prices are comparable between the 2 as you will pay fitters charges and travelling with AF but I took the car to Granthma for fitting so didn't incur this.

I didn't go the Armorfend route as I heard a lot of comments about the patterns being generic and the final fit (cutting) is on the car, ie cutting the new paintwork. Non starter for me.

Drop me a line if you need more.

FFG's Griffith was on the TVRCC stand at last weekends NEC Classic Car Show. I've always been sceptical about this stuff, especially about the finish and edge line, but that Griffith looked perfect. You could see the film line, but only if you were really looking close. It's certainly not as noticable as a nose full of stone chips.

FFG, great looking Griffith BTW.

Would second that, I looked at it at the Griff Growl and thought it was fine. Rich...

Cheers guys.
I think the colour helps disguise it more - I have seen it on darker cars and the wax line is noticable but if you wax away from the line you shouldn't get the build up. I also got the natural line where the front dips in for the bonnet as the end of the film. On other cars I have seen the film ends midway and not on a natural line which makes the line much more noticable (and doesn't provide full protaction). The film is a max 400mm wide so you need to be clever with the design.
In terms of cost I got a good deal as mine was the first Griff and I assisted in the design of the pieces. I spent all day (08:30 until about 19:00) so it was a long old day. I live in Brum and they are in Grantham so not on the doorstep either.
At over £4k for a respray I consider it a good investment. If you just want the nose sections it would be less but we had the lot - still considering a bonnet section but still unsure. I would imagine in the order of £300 for the nose which is the bulk of the work.
Ideally, get a group to do it and you will get a much better rate - I've confirmed this already with Tom.

Just had a quote for full nose, headlamps and driving lamps. £329 inc vat and fitting: As am about to spend mucho on a respray seems like a reasonable investment.

I'd be interested in a (pre-cat) group effort, if anyone gets one together.

He will need a pre cat to modify the nose pieces (if he hasn't had one in already), but whether cat or pre cat the bigger the group the bigger the discount.

I've spoken to them about doing a pre-cat template, they'll get back to me with an approximate price. They'll also get back to me about a group discount (pre-cats and 500s welcome), preferably 6 cars needed. Expressions of interest here please...

As said I'm interested........ I best get the paint work sorted out first otherwise I'll be proteceting scrapes

Hmmm might need to re jig somethings... was planning on service installing new injectors, ACT induction and trumpets (all on order) and then getting the paint done.

I would be interested if we got a good group discount. ( Mines a pre-cat ).
If he wanted a pre cat car as a template I don't mind driving up for the day, although I am not that local, it could be a fun day out....
I would also have to get the paint / stone chips sorted first. Can we get a group discount on that to?

OK,

here's the details:

>>>
Your Griffith 400 – design and install service at Grantham, Lincolnshire.
Parts: Bumper, half bonnet, wing mirrors - £500.00 + vat (normal
pricing)
Retrospective discount down to: £325.00 + vat should the group deal of an
additional 5 cars by the end of January 2006 be accomplished.

In addition the other parts we have designed are: Door sills, Rear wheel
impact area, and left and right exterior sills all parts at discounted
pricing of : £150.00 + vat.

Discount for group deal customers:

Frontal areas as above normally £500.00 down to £400.00 + vat
Sills etc, installed at the same time £150.00 + vat.

We are looking at Griffiths and Chimaeras to share the same discounted rates
and parts.

Headlight kits are available however we would like to test fit on your car
for permanency first: £50.00 + vat.
>>>

So basically whoever's precat is used for the template design gets nose/bonnet/mirror protection at £325+vat

Other precats and 500s (and Chims) get a group discount at £400+vat

Sills and rear arches get done at £150+vat IF you're having the nose/bonnet/mirrors done too.

Headlamp protection is available for all cars at £50+vat subject to successful test fitting on the first car.

NOTE: All the above DEPENDS upon getting 6 cars done by the end of January. The fact that it's a 'retrospective' discount implies everyone pays full whack (£500+vat for the nose/bonnet/mirrors) and refunds to the value of the discount are given later.

To be honest I'm undecided. Even the 'template' precat owner is looking at £500+ for full protection, and the chances of 6 cars by eo January are looking slim. I guess further negotiations could be attempted depending on numbers/timing.

Are the costs in line with what people are thinking?

£325+vat is for whoever's precat is used to make the template - the 'template car'. No damage should occur during this process, but in making the template an adhesive vinyl is applied and removed several times (trial fitting I guess) which could conceivably damage poor paint. I was told only two instances of this have ever occured. Also the template car is required for longer than just supply and fit, due to the time it takes to make the template first time around. The email was phrased to refer to 'your car' (ie my car) as I made the enquiry, but I've been open about the reduced cost of the car used for the template, in case I don't go ahead. The £400+vat is for all cars, precat or 500 done AFTER the first precat - the 'template car', on a group deal basis.
