New thread I know, but Tunit deserve their own on the Griff forum.

Apparently, the smoothe power curve impressed the chaps - Steve, manager & Duncan, man whose foot put is responsible - at Tunit in Chorley. They say the engine looks like it just needs regualr oil and filter changes cos whatever Ian is doing is working fine.

During second run, I spotted the sparks from the left rear, and smoke and stink off same once stopped. Steve said this could be a sticking caliper, and may have reduced the bhp by up to 10. Told 'em to forget the third run, as no need to stress engine and brakes etc any more

But once off the motorway home, both wheels were same temp & no smell or smoke. Coincidentally, am now missing one hub cover which went missing en route home, but there we are. Off for check on thursday.

Added to what I think are low figures, it wasn't a great day. But Ian reckons they aint bad atall. At least I know what Bluey's doing now and so have comparison figures for the future.

Unfettled standard 500 engine.

At 5157rpm = 244.3 bhp
At 3874rpm = 275lbs ft

Good chaps there and we shall return later in the year for a check up. £46

Nice one..!

When Miss D has been to hospital and is fixed I want to get her on a RR to see what she is pulling.

See you at the garage.

Claire

PS...I shall look out for the errant hub cover and tell it off for escaping should I find it

Claire, have given Ian the guy's name & number. May be worth popping in when you are both passing to oil the wheels

Now I hate ebay but let' see... go-faster wheel hub covers....

I quite fancy a few LED's in the cockpit but you-know-who is totally against it.

Anything to wind him up

I'll wait for an experienced person to say if it is a normal curve, but from my limited experience it seems to me the Torque is falling off far to quickly there for an RV8. Can't make out the scale properly but I assume it goes up to 6k rpm. The absolute figures matter not.

I see RV8 curves like that all the time from larger capacity RV8s.. it's like they just run out of airflow. The larger the capacity the sooner in the rev range they make that hp plateau.
Seems perfectly alright to me

The standard round or flat panel filters should flow enough air.Make sure its clean?

The chap who does the dyno is well impressed with Bluey's curves, and says he'll use the graph as an example of the ideal as he will use others suc as erm some of the speed six engines as examples of less than ideal curves.

As for the top end shortfall re bhp, I spoke to my local mech and he says the caliper may have stuck but there's no signs whatsoever of more wear to the rear left disc than the right, although there's a few microns more dust on the left wheel than the right, so maybe there has been more brake pad wear over the last couple of hundred miles since last cleaned, but nout significant or anything he can test as such. Just had service 700miles ago and although filter not changed it was 3.5k before that and the oil on the filter is still nice and thin and clean.

Steve at Tunit suggested I change to a k&n filter. Anyone any info on results when fitted to totally standard 500?

Hi, can vouch for the k&n filter. Does appear to improve certainly the running/delivery.

Dave.

Cheers, lads.
Quinny - Some variation in figures there! Your Griff is so nice. Well done, once again
Sam - where does that k&n fit? Is everything else standard and it just sits at the front grill like the current one?

Bit fiddly to fit, easy enuogh tho. All else standard other than intake hose (silicone) but when i originally fitted the filter it was standard and felt as described...Mine is cylindrical filter, not panel and think yours will be same maybe?

Happy motorin`!

Dave.
