I'm sure this has been done to death in other places - yes I have done a search - but go on, I need a bit more convincing....

wife is getting a Scenic as our practical family car...
this leaves me free to get rid of my Impreza estate...

I need something that will be reasonably reliable for 15000 miles a year, used every day.
But it would be nice to have something special... and I'm hopelessly indecisive and irrational about cars (last privately purchased car was a choice between Griff 500, Elise 111S or impreza STi)

I've lusted after a Griff 500 for years... yet I still have doubts over TVR reliability :flamesuiton: even though I run an engine test facility, so it should be easy enough to get things fixed on a low tech thing like a Griff...

My Volvo 850 let me down more than any of the 9 TVRs I have had. Currently running a Griff 500 as a runabout. Was a shopping trolley but it got demoted at Christmas or so I was told...

Just do it.

Our Griff is used has been used as a daily car and has been more reliable than my Saab, Citroen and sons Pug 106, they prefer to be used and the engines are of proven technology, running gear is Ford, waxoyl it and rust wont be an issue either. You might die soon so JFDI before they ban em

prepare to pay around £600/annum via independant for servicing at those mileages......not too bad really

No definitely not.

Absolutely not

No question about it

For example, I have run mine for two years (and 16 days) as an only car, come rain or shine. It's been almost totally reliable (we are talking two non starts in the morning and one ignition coil failure when parked at work), covered 33,500 miles in that time and used up gallons and megalitres of petrol, a couple of litres of oil and a bucketload of powersteering fluid.

It has cost £462 to insure this year, that's £9 per week for goodness sake! Every service costs at least £170 for the basic service - and what for????

You'll have to polish it several times a year, if not month, week et cetera....

....you'll be constantly plotting routes which will take you further and longer - or even volunteering to go shopping. Even then, because you will claim that you can't get much in the boot, you'll end up going shopping twice a week.

At an average of 40m.p.h. 33,500 miles is 301,500 grins - if an average TVR grin lasts 10 seconds (i.e. about the time to reach 100 m.p.h.)

You'd hate it

Don't do it

For god sake someone tell him how silly the idea is......

the really silly thing is that a Cerb would be more practical (that after all is the point of a Cerb...) but the potential expense involved in Cerb engine and box just scares me senseless....

But they're all made of chocolate.

Oops, I meant the valve seats in the Cerbie engine
