Following on from my last post:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=45276&f=9&h=0

I'm convinced that using the Griffith every day is the way forward I'll be getting it Waxoyled at the next service, and the hood is already water tight, but it suffers from a leak in the passenger footwell. It's not coming through the door seal (I've cured that leak already...). It appears to be coming from somewhere above the glovebox, because it creates a nice puddle on top of the carpet, right in the centre of the footwell. Could it be coming through from where the wiper motor is fixed?

On an aside note - What's the best thing to clean the carpets with? Mine are magnolia, and are beginning to show the dirt.

Thanks,

Dan.

Hi Dan

I had the same problem with my Griff 500. If you get upside down with your head in the passenger footwell you might get a better view of where water is getting in. I had a very minor leak around the wiper motor and used 'seak n seal' from Comma, meant to be for windscreens, but works just as well. My big leak was around the coolant pipes to the heater matrix (which is easy to see when you're upside down:-) and I sealed that with silicon from the engine bay. If you reach down from the passenger side, under the bulkhead you'll feel 2 pipes heading into the car, that's where mine leaked. Obviously check its not coolant leaking out of the heater valve first etc.

Hope that helps

P.S. Interior car shampoo from Autoglym works on my carpets

Rod,

I assume I can pick up the 'Seek and Seal' from somewhere like Halfords? What is it exactly? Is it kind of like RadWeld - i.e. When it finds a hole, it blocks it?

Thanks for the carpet shampoo tip. I'll be getting some of that too.

Thanks,

Dan.

I don't think Halfords stock it anymore (they've got their own brand of window sealant now, but it looks too thick to me), I got my last lot at a little car spares place near me. I'd have thought that Les Smith or somewhere like that should be able to get some

Cheers

Rod

Edited to say: Yes, its a little like radweld, its a high solvent base fluid that dribbles into the cracks then sets into a semi rigid state. Top stuff. You can wipe off excess with meths or white spirit

OK, thanks. I'll take a look in Les Smith.

Another possibility is the heater pipes which have connections up there. When I bought mine there was a slight drip, one turn of the jubilee clip cured it.
