All you PH ers probably get a lot of "im going to buy a TVR soon" posts but as soon as my compensation for my RTA comes through im looking for a 500 griff upto about 20k (should be in the next 3 months)had a really bad bike accident on a ZZR1100 31/2 years ago (Mr Myopic in ford fiesta at 30 mph)cant ride the bike anymore so griff is next best thing (im 43, 6'1 and fat git....will i fit?)seriously though would appreciate advice im mechanically minded and the thought of service costs and tyres arent too daunting (£225 every 3k miles for zzr1100 tyres brake pads every 5000 so im used to it)heard Rob ingleby is good for sourcing any comments etc? ta all in anticipation (used to be a cop afew yrs ago so watch out for unmarked pan euros (blue and maroon ones)black civic type r (on 52 plate)volvo s60 t and x reg silver/grey mondeo in the worcester area)

My suggestion is, get yourself down to a local regional meet, they nall happen once a month. The people there are usualy V friendly and you should be able to sit in a few to see if they suit you, and with a bit of luck you may get a few rides.

Also they can tell you what is what in the local region, best garage etc and stuff to look out for.

Otherwise I also suggest you get yourself a copy of the "Bible" by that I mean the Steve Heath Griff/Chimeara book from www.tvrcc.com

Oh - you're in [appropriate accent] Wor-cest-er-shire [/appropriate accent]!

You've got the very well respected David Gerald out at Inkberrow or here in your neck of the woods, too!

Not strictly true. I think you mean don't buy the first one unless it's a minter or sourced by someone like Rob.

Definately do try and get some test drives in now so you know what you are looking for. That will cut down the work required when you actually are looking. Plus it's damn good fun

I think that you will find that the Boxster is known as the Menoporsche, whilst the Griffith is a tad unruly for a mere "boys toy"

Hi
Thought I would revitalise this thread with the comments:-
less of the boys toys. Some girls like these toys too.

I am doing the prelim research and have narrowed the field to a GRIFFITH now all I need is to find the right one.
So any suggestions, gratefully accepted.
The plans are in motion for a super new garage to house my new toy. so as soon as that is completed (later this summer) I will be on a serious hunt.

Am I right in assuming that there may be more for sale then than now as people decide (mad buggers) that this is their last summer of delight? and prefer to not house their babies through the winter.

I have joined the TVRCC recently and hope to meet many of you and your cars soon, please be tolerant of me picking your brains.

There certainly seem to have been very few about this spring - although I see that Adrian Blyth has got a couple of nice looking examples back in after a long absence punctuated only by ones that are sold before going on the website.

My pet theory is that there isn't a right time for TVRs (I bought in January having been to look in November and it was nothing to do with the weather) people are either in a situation to buy or sell or they're not. One day, like many others have already done, I will be looking for a Tuscan and that could happen at any time of year.

Go and see as many as possible and then go for the one that gives you the right gut feelings (not, as most of us will admit, snaffling up the first you see!)

This is what I intend, have done the web sites and now starting on the dealers, but unfortunately cannot afford too much so unless I am very lucky it will be a private purchase. I do not want to hack any private sellers off whilst doing the research bit.(don't wish to hack the dealers off either especially as will need to deal with them once the new toy is installed) Do want to 'do it right' first time as this has to last me a long time. Looking forward to enjoying the experience of my own car though. (Despite the rows I am having with my son, no he will not be on the insurance!!) I will have to sleep with the keys me thinks.

Local TVRCC meets and PH events, then.

Most of the Griff owners don't bite...

...much ...

... and we'll mostly be happy to show you around our toys! All adds to the knowledge base when you do get to see that perfect car.

Thanks

Hopefully going to Raby Castle, if PlanetDave can get the time off work. May fly solo if he can't.
Will see you all there

'Ding'? Hmm, sounds a bit of an expensive name for TVR ownership

Seriously, like a lot have people have mentioned before... Rob Ingleby at findasportscar.co.uk is as good a starting point as any and he'll know where the available cars are.

I'm off to Raby too from Huddersfield so it may be an idea to start thinking about a bit of a convoy

All I can say is I have improved over the years but my brother does not let me forget!
It isn't too bad as I have the dirt on him too.

We were thinking of going up on the Saturday, if we can find suitable accom. If we change our minds we are only the other side of the hills from you. (other end of Woodhead!)

Either see you there or will join you in convoy
