I'm sure this has already been covered but am new here...

Wat are the best alternatives to Bridgestone in terms of grip ?

My 500 feels very slippery on them - although the feedback & progression is great !

I've just replaced mine with Goodyear GSD3s & am VERY impressed.Higher grip & traction all round, although I've yet to drive them in the wet....

Matt, I have SO3s all round and do not find them slippy. Have the tyres had track use? Have you checked the pressures? And finally, a massive improvemnt on my car's handling was to get the wheel alignment checked and set up properly. I am led to believe that even new cars from the factory can need the alignment setting.

Thanx Dave,

Yes I did have the camber & tracking checked when the SO-3s went on last month.

I run her on 23psi at the front & 25psi at the rear - Slightly more than the handbook says - I cant believe that this makes much of a difference ?

Been running SO3s for a few years now. Can't say I find them slippy at all, feedback is good.

Was a bit surprised to see that, despite running the rears at 24psi, this long hot summer has seen me wear away the centre of the tread at a fairly alarming rate (i.e. about 9000 miles and I am near to the 2mm marks ).

Guess it's all about how you use them

Edited to add: Just checked my profile - 25,000 miles on the fronts keeping them at about 22psi; previous rears 15,000 at about 24psi, looking like 11 or 12,000 this time round. Tyre cost, about 3p-4p per mile overall!

22 front, 24 rear and I don't even put more air in on track days. I think one of the best aspects of the tyre is that the sidewall is so stiff. I have these tyres on both my cars and have found them to control movement better. I assume the only difference Matt, is that you have got 16 inch wheels all round. Issues with SO3s seem to crop up on lower profile tyres.

Finally, a good investment I made was a tyre presure gauge as I used to get variations of 4 psi from garage to garage. Expensive at £44 but you can zero it to local pressure. RS part number - 262 8739 if you're interested.

Thanx Dave !

Just bought a pressure gauge & the tyres were about 3psi more than I thought !!!
Just let'em down a bit & she feels much more settled & alot less twitchy :-)
