Powerflex Diff bushes
Discussion
Evening All
Not sure if i'm missing something here, but i've ordered 2x Powerflex diff bushes from RaceTech (part number RD6364) but when i put them against the bracket they appear too long between the bush flanges:
It's a 93 Griff with a GKN diff - i'm only looking to replace the bushes in the front mounting plates as the rear bush looks OK and i'll do that when the body comes off for a full chassis refurb anyway.
Do the bushes come in different lengths?? It was the only option available for the 4.3 on RaceTech's web site but my recollection was that the original bush was almost flush with the end of the bracket and that was a real effort to get out.
I've not offered the bush up to the chassis yet but even if it does fit the chassis surely the bush should sit flush against the outside edges of the bracket?

Send them back ,Steve Heath is the man for poly bushes..Not sure if i'm missing something here, but i've ordered 2x Powerflex diff bushes from RaceTech (part number RD6364) but when i put them against the bracket they appear too long between the bush flanges:

The early GKN carriers are like yours and yes you can get the bushes the right size, cant recall who does them, but i`m sure someone will be along shortly to tell you. I had this problem. I cut them in half and removed about a 1cm of them and then just pressed them in with a vice. They are a good tight fit and havent budged.
When i did mine i couldnt find any the correct size. Spoke to Steve Heath and he didnt do them.

David Gerald TVR would appear to be the place you want for the correct size bushes.

Carsy is spot on. I did the same thing when I took my diff out for refurb and decided to do the bushes at the same time. David Gerald has the right size bushes for the earlier GKN mounts. When I spoke with them they said not to bother with the polybushes for normal road use, they recommended the original metalastic type. That's what are got from them. http://web4.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
A word of warning though, the old bushes are an absolute pig to get out, even doing them on the workbench took at least 45 minutes each! I ended up pushing out the central tube, then cutting through the rubber and just through the outer tube with a hacksaw, thus allowing it to compress slightly, it then could be knocked out quite easily. Good luck mate. Pete
Thanks all – appreciated
I'd already got the old bushes out - hence why i was a bit peeved when i saw the new ones!!
Blow torch, hack saw (with a good blade) and about 30 mins sweet put paid to the old ones....
Will probably go with Carsy's suggestion of removing a lump from the middle...
