Wanted - Griffith
Discussion
Looking to re-establish my TVR ownership, after S's in 1993 and 1998 with a good condition Griff. Looking in all the usual places, PH, AutoTrader, Ebay, Dealers. Price wise there does seem to be some marked variation even with similar spec cars.
Preference is, very briefly but ideally;
Exterior - Dark colour - Starmist blue, mica blue, moonraker black, cureton etc. No repsrays /colour changes/acc repairs please.
Interior - Cream, black (with Black ext only) etc but am open minded. V Good condition.
50-70k (mileage, not price!) - though condition (body & mech) is paramount, not necessarily mileage.
Chassis/outriggers must be in decent shape. Well maintained pre-cat 4.3 / 5.0 (with MOT please, sounds obvious but have come across some that dont even have the basics!).
EDIT - I'll add a few more bits, even though it may limit choice but for clarity...well documented history, and ideally low number previous owners. Happy to discuss if criteria is there or thereabouts.
Very outline, I know but hopefully gets the idea across.
If you are considering selling (maybe in the future) or know someone who may be, please drop me a pm or ask them to get in touch. This will be a "pampered, going to a good (neigh, excellent) home" kinda thing, and as such want the choice to be right.
Thanks folks.

Welcome S-G, nice to meet you on Sunday, if you remember we spoke at length about colour and condition etc. Hope you find a good one soon and can join us on the next Growl, all the best, Pete
Thank you Pete, indeed I do remember our chat, it was great talking to you, thanks for all the advice. Will see how long it takes to find a good one which meets my basic expectations. Look forward to the next Growl by which time I hope to be sorted(!?). BTW "Can't wait" thread was great - very nice work, good seeing the car in the flesh yesterday and subsequently the amount of work that went into it in the thread.Barreti said:
....You are right to be picky. The difference in standards for the same price never ceases to amaze me.
The description fits my car, which isn't for sale so this isn't a stealth sales pitch, but that is the price bracket I would have my car in.

Thanks Barreti - will see what turns up. Recently there seems to have been a few in the early teens bracket (though missed out on these). Of course without actually viewing, difficult to gauge, and unfortunately sellers usually tell you what they want you to hear. Needless to say asking the right questions helps and of course putting in the mileage is all part of the journey.

No problem. Looking at your profile I see you are in my area. If you find something locally and want it looking over feel free to drop me a line and I'll help out.
Pre-cats are a speciality of mine. Only the best for Barreti
That's excellent Barreti and very much appreciated. Will keep it in mind and hope to be in touch soon. CheersPre-cats are a speciality of mine. Only the best for Barreti
Well, after a bit of toing and froing, this week, my hunt for a good Griff is still on.
So, once again, for anyone who has a great condition 4.3 or 5.0, please get in touch.
Not in any rush, just after the right one, so if you want to flag up your potential sale early, please let me know, and please feel free to divulge as much info as possible, and as early in our discussions as possible Thanks

Long time - but still here and looking for the right one. You will have guessed, no rush to buy
Pretty much as per OP - though must admit other priorities came up a year or so ago and so have been dipping in and out of the forum etc.
What have you got folks? Cureton added to list of potential candidates (suspects), cream / tan interiors only please.
Thank you

This one looks decent with chassis done and sensible miles. Could well be Cureton looking at the pics.
Having seen this now, way too many issues, ticks some of the key boxes, but more of a true project car.It is amazing how some people describe their cars, and photos always look good (deceptive), even at two feet back.
As such, the search goes on. Thanks

I do appreciate the comments et al.
However for clarity and context, please understand that while I do not claim to be an expert, I am by no means a novice when it comes to cars, particularly those 20 years plus – or the issues that go along with cars of such an age. Yes, TVRs are of course very different to typical German factory engineering, mass produced cars etc, and understand the associated challenges (!)
DIY is no issue to me and have been working on my own cars for well over 20 years now (yes, probably nothing compared to some of you more experienced and knowledgeable guys and gals, particularly on TVRs but hopefully you get my point. I am always an eager student - and of course forums are an invaluable source of knowledge, debate and banter). Where any specialist work has been needed, I am fortunate to have friends in the trade who have /can help out.
It’s how I relax (if that is the right word!), probably, dare I say, like many others out there.
As far as buying and selling, again fully appreciate the issues re condition, owners (how passionate they are about their cars, whether they are solicitor owned or otherwise…lol), pros and cons and risks associated with private and dealership buying.
As I eluded to previously – I have not actively or continuously been looking for the past two years since my OP due to other priorities – and as such please do not assume the reason I have not purchased has been down to the fact that they have all had some sort of off putting characteristics, which has resulted in me walking away – Fortunately or unfortunately, I have been around long enough to understand….stating the obvious, that there are a multitude of factors that comprise car buying, private or otherwise.
Again – your comments are much appreciated, but on a side note - really no need to link me to existing media sale ads, as these will already (hopefully) be on my lists of regular viewing. If you have or know of anyone selling something akin to the spec stated, I’d be more than grateful to hear from you.
Seeing the quality of cars at places such as the Growl events no doubt affects us all – and something to aspire to. Understandably it takes a great deal of effort to get there but suggest that searching for a good starting base is no bad thing – and (cost aside), not something to be taken lightly or necessarily over eagerly.
Well, there I said it – and hopefully none of you good thick skinned folk have taken offence (....probably won’t see any more posts on this thread then!!..lol).
