Best place to secure a small fire extinguisher?

My thinking is in the passenger footwell just below and forward of the passenger seat. Will drilling screw holes here give a nasty result?

Holes sholdn't be a problem so long as you seal the properly. Most that I have seen have been done this way. Mine is velcro'd onto my roll bar but I don't think that is ideal as if it came off in a shunt and hit me on the head it would probably kill me (or passenger).

The best place I've found is sideways under the driver's knees, but depending on footwell width and extinguisher size this isn't always possible.

Always wondered about the safety of it being on the drivers side though. If it worked loose, the last thing I'd want is an extinguisher going under my brake pedal. (Or throttle for that matter!)

Have you done this Peter? If so, has it been safe to drill in that region. I.E: There are no wires or things to drill through?

Yes this is how mine is mounted, through the fiberglass floor with penny washers to spread the load. This may not seem particularly strong but is how the seats are mounted as standard! There's nothing under the floor there apart from the chassis (which you can see by sticking your head under the car).

I have mine placed under the front of the passenger seat. Fixing with bolts and washers underside. It's quite unobtrusive and helps to scare your passengers.

I'm with Pete on this one...I want an extinguisher where I can reach it at all times...without undoing seat belt and clambering over the transmission tunnel.

In a nightmare scenario this might not be possible, and only sensible place is between the drivers legs.

Mine is fitted lengthways under my right leg, right up against the seat (I'm left handed). Only problem is it makes getting in/out a bit awkward.

Short of a fully plumbed system I see it as the next best thing.

Thanks. It would seem that the drivers side is probably best for reach etc. if in an emergency.

Just have to make sure its well secured.

Just a quick thought. It might be wise to make sure you allow enough room for the seat to be moved fully forward so you can undo the seat retaining bolts at the back of the running rail should you ever need to remove the seat. Otherwise you may have to remove the extinguisher bracket first.

I would have thought that if you're removing the seat runners, undoing another couple of bolts would be no problem? (My seat is bolted to the floor so I don't have to worry about this sort of thing!)
