Defender 60th Anniversary Edition
Discussion
I saw one at Eastnor Castle a few weeks back and thought it looked very nice (though I don't like the lights). For me thought 2 seats and no room for anything else in the back would make it completely impractical (and not cheap either). But I liked the matt on gloss 60th script on the doors so watch out for that coming soon to a vinyl sign maker near you.
I also saw the centre steer recreation while I was there and given a choice between the two I'd choose that!

Very nice, it will be a great fun-vehicle, had a good look at one at the Geneva show. The seats are really comfortable, big step up from the current ones, I'll be getting a pair to fit in the TD5 once they become available (assuming they'll fit of course.)
Had to laugh though, the show car had a bit of black duck tape on the seat box - some things never change

Bit concerned about you comments re room in the back. I don't mind loosing the seats - see it as a bonus actually - but where has the rest of the space gone?! I also saw the centre steer recreation while I was there and given a choice between the two I'd choose that!

From memory the back was filled in between the wheel wells and covered with chequerplate. Pretty sure there was concealed storage that you can access by opening the tailgate - not sure how much space though.
Cheers. If it can only be accessed by revealing a letter box shape slot when you open the tail gate that'll be a pain. If it's got some kind of top lid in the false floor then that'll be handy - offering security which I guess the soft top wouldn't otherwise offer.defender50th said:

Thanks for that. Guess I'll just have to wait and see when the car comes. I suppose what space you loose via the raised floor you'll gain by not having seats. Plus we'll still have our faithfull six year old 90 for those 'loaded to the roof' tip runs. Getting the car is a bit of an experiment anyway and if we don't like it I can't see it being a problem to shift a month or so on. James
Sorry for delay getting back, I thought I'd taken some pics but now I've looked they are all of the centre steer.
Not sure how many versions of the 60th there are but the one I saw was a 90 soft top. The meaty roll bar leaves no room for seats as the hoop behind the front seats has two down-angled stays going to the back. As others have said the remaining space in the back seems to be filled with chequer plate lockers of one sort or another leaving a small well in the middle.

Cheers for that. I've now got a number for the LR product manager on this project. He's away for a while but will pester him on his return. We'll take the car anyway but would be interesting to know exactly what we're getting! Not sure how many versions of the 60th there are but the one I saw was a 90 soft top. I put down a deposit / order for my SVX soft top on 4th November 2007....about 3 weeks before they announced it on the 26th November ....am still no wiser now 'what am getting' and when am getting it?
In hindsight I wish I had purchased a green 2008 90 Pick up with heated screen etc...get a roll cage fitted by protection and Performance and then Exmoor roof and high back seats.....I could of easily been enjoying the sun in April instead of 'hanging around' till winter time for its delivery!

If anyone is wants a 60th roll cage they are made for Land Rover by these people - http://www.breedgroup.com/index.htm
They also make other stuff for Land Rover like roof and bike racks, rear step bumpers for the Defender and chequer plate kits (in black and silver). They're rather cheaper (actually a great deal cheaper) than Land Rover too - I picked up black chequer plate and a tow step from them a couple of weeks ago and they said they are happy to supply direct - phone and ask for Nicola.

Protection and performance are making 60th anniversary style conversions, here is a pic from there leaflet from billing:
There show model looked better as it had a LRX grill. They will also fit a genuine SVX grill if required.
Maybe more pratical as you can have one with no bulkhead and 07 seats in the back.
Just not the real thing though !

Its sometime in October,[I did order it early Nov 07] but they are still having problems with the soft top hood and the pictures I have seen to-date with the triangular window in the side panel looks very 1970's kit car
Look at Sept edition of Land Rover Enthausiast

Cancelled mine. Was getting bored with waiting anyway then had a good look round one (soft top) yesterday and wasn't impressed. Going to keep our faithful seven year old 90 and look for a good 50th - a real 'special' rather than the tart up which the 60th appears to be. 'Race' seats and all the shiney bits seemed daft in a Landie and as for saying it's got Satnav, what a lash up. For me the main attraction was the soft top but I reckon one of the specialists would do a better conversion for you anyway.
Would love to get one of the new JE V8 conversions but, annoyingly, they only do them on 110s. Had a chat (after umpteen unreturned 'phone calls) about doing a 90 with a very disinterested sounding chap there then followed up with an e.mail confirming how interested I would be and even suggesting I'd supply a new 90 and they haven't even be bothered to reply.
