2015 Range Rover Sport steering rack failure

Bit of a pisser but my owned from new 2015 Sport with 73,000 miles on it just suffered a very unexpected steering rack failure, thankfully it failed pulling away on my driveway rather then on the motorway cracking on a bit....

Subsequently now having googled this problem I see that this is a very common fault on Evoke's & Discovery Sports & accepted by Land Rover as a free of charge replacement as a rule on a case by case basis. That fault is caused by the three bolts that secure the electric motor that provides assistance into the rack supposedly due to the alloy bolts corroding & shearing off.

Having had a look myself the same issue has beset my car having reached in I can hand pull the motor out the rack & see two of the bolts hanging out the flange no longer attached.

The gears sound & looks stripped now so won't just be a case of removing the old sheared remains & bolting it back together again.

As such wondered if anyone else has experienced this issue & if so how it was dealt with by their Land Rover dealer & or who they used to get it fixed at all?

Just for info if anyone else suffers this failure, Land Rover dealer quoted me £3000 to replace however I used my AA home start recovery to send it to Glasgow Power steering 300 miles away, paying them £1564 for a rebuild done in two days.

Fortunately my father in-law who lives in Scotland has just dropped it back to me (Worcestershire) as he & his Mrs had a do to attend near by, its the little wins that make you happy!

To give credit where credits due that's the first expenditure other than a yearly service & tyres in my 9 years of ownership, she's been a fantastic car & been properly used with plenty of towing at 3ton plus & mud / water / field exposure too.
