Im after small amount of profit just for a starter as I'm 17, so I was wondering whether or not the keyring business is worth it these days. I was going to first see how it went by buying 5 keyrings for £1.87 then sell one for 95p with a picture. But looking on ebay their doesnt seem to be alot of people wanting to buy them these days. Any opinions?

Thanks

It is good for 17 who want to start up. I think keyring, carabiner, with key-fob attached is a worthy run, especially if you have the market niche. A friend of mine is a leather made key fob producer, not big amount perhaps only in a small box he regularly export the product to Germany...

Do it.

Even if you don't make much (or any) money, you'll learn about marketing, customer experience, stock control, returns etc., etc.

These things won't change (much) regardless of whether you're selling key rings or kryptonite.

+ you'll enjoy it.

Good luck.

I agree with the others. ALso the outlay is so low, it's not even a risk. Good luck.

The Taxi trade buy lots of keyrings.

Maybe try Gyms - You could sell those trolley token things for the lockers - I bought one with Gym Junky on it the other day to save me scratching around for a quid hehe

If you can think of something worthwhile to put on the keyring, maybe a list of emergency numbers for example, and then you could sell the other side as advertising space with free distribution, then just get a direct marketing company to post them door-to-door. You can be a bit creative, you don't just have to make and sell keyrings wink

I would also bet that you can get 5 keyrings for free if you called a keyring manufacturer and asked for a selection of samples. That way you can also ask them about prices for larger amounts if your idea takes off cool

The cheapest I could find was £1.70 plus 80p for postage for 5, do you think thats reasonable?

The cheapest I could find for 5 was £1.70 + 80p for pp
http://www.buyking.co.uk/promotional-products/keyrings.php?ppcc=KR013&gclid=CPvt-sLh8pkCFYZM5Qodo0qbSA - cheap ETA you'll have to cut n paste that address for some reason, but they are 26p each.

http://www.rocketbadge.co.uk/default.html - cool bespoke stuff.

Is that what it says? biggrin

I only did a quick google. There are loads of places that seem to sell the basic keyring - I would be tempted to ask that cool looking company how much it would cost to do a new design and a short run in the cool 3D metal ones, and then talk to car clubs, bike clubs, major websites (PH?) etc about buying a run off you to sell in their shop. Put the deal together and only make the order yourself when you've got a purchase order.

Just an idea biggrin

My Lad got hold of one of those Badge Makers from Argos and a couple of packs of blanks. He made Car related badges and sold them at a show I attended (My car was on a club stand and he put out a table and sold them with a 50p mark up. I reckon he made £50, and nobody minded as he was 10 at the time.

That's a 100% gross profit. Fairly impressive biggrin

Now, imagine if you could make 20% of a £2k order by doing what you've just done (clicking a button). That's £400.00. Probably sounds more worthwhile, no? smile

Percentage-wise it's a good bet. Start small, go big.

And if all else fails it'll be a great back story when you go on The Apprentice. Sralan would love the entrepreneurial spirit shown hehe

That's 100% markup and £2.50 for 10 mins work.
If it works, maybe spend the £5 and get some more.

Worst scenario is £5 down
Best scenario is £10 in your pocket smile
