Long shot, but does anyone know if there is anywhere online where I can keep a look out for a company declaring (or being forced to declare) itself bankrupt?

The business pages of most newspapers or the FT website would probably be a good place to start.

The companies house website will list when a company goes into adminsitration - not necessarily bankrupt but it's a start...

If you know the name of a limited company, you can download basic information about that company for free from the Companies House website as already stated. You will be able to see if the company is current, under administration, in receivership or liquidated.

Finding out about individuals, sole traders or partnerships is much more difficult as there is no central registry for such entities.

Please note that the term "bankrupt" refers to people, not limited companies.
