I have had my bank accounts with one particularly well known high street bank for around 10 years.

I moved to this institution because of the great relationship I had with the staff at this bank. (As well as the fact that they were prepared to lend me sh*tloads of money for start up).

I had a branch manager I knew on first name terms and an account manager I knew equally well. I had direct line numbers and mobile number for both. At the very least, I could always get through to my branch manager's secretary.

There was always a fast flow of staff, seemingly with regular promotions. But every time we lost a manager, a new manager would visit me and introduce themselves and establish a relationship.

This all went downhill two years ago. I still have a business account manager, but she seems to be spread so thinly (or is so inefficient - I haven't decided yet) that I have a better relationship with her voice mail than with her.

Speaking to a member of staff this morning, I was asked if I would like my accounts moved back to the branch? (What? Where are my accounts based at the moment? And just who is my personal contact right now?).

Anyway ... it seems time to move accounts.

My question is, have others here had these problems or alternatively, is there a bank that you are particularly happy with?

Check out the recent threads in this forum. The very same question was asked last week. No definite findings though.

Is it anything to do with the fact you're a "poor car dealer"?

Know what you mean. A while back the bank asked to see my financial statements (again we don't borrow and they just wanted to sell stuff to me), so I said "okay, after you've shown me your last 12 wage slips". Needless-to-say, he wasn't so keen after that!

Ahh the predictable world of banking. Certainty in an uncertain world. Joy.

I quite like my bank manager and he's probably the only reason I stay with my bank. He's young (28/9) and therefore enthusiastic, gets on and does things if you ask him to, doesn't try to give me the hard sell and the best bit is that I can TEXT him!

I have a great relationship with my bank (N**W**t) - can call the manager or his PA on a direct line, have a chat & get 99% of the routine banking done over the phone on an informal "first-name-chat type basis".

It's great. - I'd recommend them to everyone.

I'd not recommend Natwest to anyone. Nothing in particular except tediously jobsworth cashiers and a business manager who doesn't know anything or return my calls. Apart from that the service is great

Do you know that sounds exactly like the nice people whom I hold my business account with. They have a lovely black hore as a logo.

All of the above just goes to show how much personalities matter.
I initially had by business account at N**W**T Cranfield University branch. The manager was used to dealing with students and academics so had no real business understanding.
I changed to HS*C in Towcester where the manager understood the Motor Racing business. His support was invaluable. My business blossomed instead of folding, which is where Twat West were taking me.
But now with the foreign call centres taking over, things are taking a turn for the worse.

In my fairly limited meetings with our bank,I would say it almost certainly comes down to the particular business manager.

Ours has no clue how a business is run,but he is very easy going so could be to our advantage....who knows!?

Someone was telling me the other day that if you join the Federation of Small Businesses you get free banking at Co-Op

Which seemed like a deal but there must be a downside, somewhere.

We are members of the FSB...I will have to check that out!

I have spoken to Coop Bank, looked at website and it appears there are no catches if in credit(?)However they have very limited branches ,so unless you are all electronic big problems paying in cheques, unless you are near one.

For banking cheques I think you can use the Post Office.

I was considering joining on the back of this alone...

Matt,

Have a look at www.fsb.org.uk

We have been members for about 4 years...lots of benifits for not a lot of outlay.
