Any opinions on using a PR company for a new small business - are they worth the money and is there any particular package that they put together that you would recommend?

Depends on what industry you're in really. Can do wonders, can be a total waste of money.

It completely depends on a number of things:

What kind of industry do you operate in? Is it a mature market - i.e. will Advertising a PR make a huge difference to turnover/sales?

What kind of budget do you have? Will the ROI really be worth the outlay?

What types of PR are you thinking of? Is it press releases/web etc? Or are you thinking more at events/PR girls? Or are you looking at more marketing type activities?

Then you have to weigh up the time you would spend doing your own PR versus what your time would be better spent on and what the impact of not using your time elsewhere. Would you be losing sales by spending time on PR? If thats the case then if you are at least as well off the go for it.

Sometimes you are better spending the time

It will be press releases, a bit of local radio etc. I've been told that I need to market me as the face of the company and that's what they will push for - basically as much intense coverage prior to launch and then in the following few months until everyone knows me and my company

Unless the commitment to PR and advertising impacts on your ability to get on with your business, just do it yourself.

What is the business?
We use PR, but I am doubting its value
