As a side line there is LOADS you can do - just need to think or something that you can get for less than it would sell for, simple ;-)
A friend of mine has a load of fonejacker balaclava's that his selling for anything between £10 and £30.
They cost about £2 each, landed in the UK. Made loads in 3 weeks!

The parents run an Ebay shop part time, sales are close to £3.5K a month. They've built it up over the last 18 months, currently at about 500 listings and feed back of just below 10K. I'm not sure of the margins but I know that it covers the morgage for a couple of hours work a day. I'm not going to say what they sell though. Sorry. Like the previous poster said it's about finding anything that you can supply cheaply.
If you haven't sold on there before why not list a few unwanted household items to get a feel of how it works and raise some start up cash.

Definetly worth doing but requires some form of commitment if you want to make good £££.
Ive attented ebay university a while back and some peoples sales were 40k to 200k a month. Selling from CD's to a full time car dealer.

Let me tell you this running an ebay business is not an easy task.
It took me many many months to find suitable products that i could sell on and make a decent margin.
What you also need to realise is that Ebay are thiefs and take so much money.
1stly there is the listing fee
Then they take 10% off any item you sell, then they take a further 3% of the money which gets paid into your paypal account.
It takes a lot of planning.
One of the great things I started with was selling wii fits before xmas, I was buying them for £60 in London HMS & Zavvi and they would sell on ebay for £100 + was great, but the margin was in theory slim after all the fees ebay take.
In terms of finding stock, this is the hardest thing.
It took me a few trips to China / Hong Kong and I have many friends there who have helped me out.

Good for them! How do they deal with ebay buyer scammers? (The ones who claim the goods were not sent.)
They mostly sell low value items, so don't attract many scammers. On the few higher value items they are always posted insured. Requests for lower cost postage, that would be uninsured are refused. Mum has also got to know the Royal Mails claims practices pretty well.And it is hard work, the only reason the parents make a lot in little time is they use suppliers to my Dads other company to source a lot of their stock.
