Currently looking at getting some tracking systems for a couple of cars we use in business.

Ideally this would allow us to look at historical usage / movements etc.
Be online (i.e. accessible through the web).

We're looking to install it on four cars.

Open for offers at the moment - we've seen one system which is working out to be around the £1300 mark for a years coverage but would be interested to know of alternatives out there - especially if you've got experience of them.

obviously no-one using this type of thing.

Could a Mod move this one to the Business section rather than me cross posting. Thanks

Couple of years ago we had a Tracker fitted to one of our works vans. Not 100% sure I can remember the prices but I have in the back of my mind £700 for the kit (installed) and £30 a month subscription.

It was very good, in fact it was scary how much information you could get from it! It did a lot of different reports and the real time, online, tracking was just spooky!

It was very accurate as well - the post code data was spot on.

Have a look at their website and the Product brochure and Reports brochure links.

Link to Tracker website

I had a problem getting it to work so the rep came out and was very helpful - turned out it was a Firefox problem.

As I said it was a couple of years ago so don't know if this helps.

A friend of mine has just started working for www.trackyou.co.uk in Wrexham. They do some very trick stuff. I have no idea what the costs of the units are but they can tailor each unit to the specific needs of each customer. Probably worth adding to your list.

Aviva trialled this a few years ago as 'pay as you go' insurance wheeze. However it died young as nobody wanted their journeys logged. But the technology must be out there still.

There are some right sharks around, depending on how advanced you need it,

I use www.locatea.net

It's completely free in theory.

The actual costs are 240 quid for the unit and 5 quid per month per car for a vodafone sim card from wireless logic.

They seemed to have switched stuff around

you want to have a look at the tramigo T22 - we sell a lot of these units to haulage companies and very well know hire company.

Tramigo T22

The web based software is free, it can be managed from your mobile phone via text commands as well. all you will require to use the unit via your computer is a USB modem.

please see my profile and contact me if you need any more info will be happy to help

That's reasonable actually, probbably the most reasonable I have seen, although still WAY more expensive than Gtrack.

Just go for the free solution and save loads of cash, I did it and it works flawlessly.

I can recommend these - We are only signed up for minimum of 1 year in our contract. System very easy to use and gives us all the info we need. This is the tracker system that Northgate use.

Only system we found that does it on a monthly rental, most other companies wanted 3-5yr leases.

Hello

give them a call on 0845 4670846, i am sure they offered a PAYG tracking solution for £149 for the kit and £19.99 per month. all the data is staored for historical look ups, high quality tracking about 4 to 5 locates a minute, best i have seen. Most update every minute or 5 minutes, no good. VVery easy going company to deal with all UK owned as well. good aerial mapping, quick tracking, neat.

Did you ever get sorted with tracking?

There are a lot of sloutions out there, some better than others, and in reality, you get what you pay for

Navman is one of the better ones, and runs at about £25.00 per vehicle per month including hardware, installation, software, training etc.

let me know if you want more information

Yes - we went with trackitnow.

Seems to be working well - in the first day alone we identified random personal use of our vehicles when they're not on a job. Handy informing customers exactly how long they'll be directly rather than having to call up the driver and ask them and then get back to a client.

Only gripe is that even though it's web based - it still doesn't work with Safari on a Mac but works okay with Internet Explorer. Their website says it works with Firefox - tried that on the Mac also and get the same blank screen results. Which reminds me - I must drop them an email asking when it's going to work on the Mac as they did say they were working on it.

Beware with Trackers if you will be changing your car.

Unlike insurance polices, which mostly refund pro-rata, Trackers do not refund anything if you sell your vehicle.

You can easily waste 10 months tracker renewal, with no refund; and then be forced by the insurance company to take out a new tracker service on your next car, yes, you end up paying twice.

Check your terms and conditions when you buy / renew - its a nice little con.

I lost out with Vodafone Automotive and Cobra Tracker C5 tracker, after three years. Lost £200, then had to buy another as it was a Porsche installed tracker which I left in the original car.

Vodafone Business / Vodafone Automative / CobraTrack - never again. Poor customer service.

Porsche only sell the Vodafone Tracking Service when you buy a car from then. Sharp practice.
