Paye Penalty?

Got this nice letter today from HMRC:




Ive always been under the impression i had up to (and including) the 5th of the month to do this?

Ive checked and all where submitted on either the 4th or 5th of the month.

In fact, ive pretty much always done the submission on either the 4th or 5th of the month, so not sure why ive all of a sudden got 3 infractions in one quarter?

Has something changed?

If it has changed, i guess im going to get fined for July and August as well!!


Anyone any ideas?

Ive always set the pay date as the last of the month, do the online return by the 5th, and pay on the 22nd.


Looking at hmrc site, it does indeed say to pay before pr on the pay day!

Not sure where ive got the 5th from then?

Also how come ive not had a penalty before in the last 3 years?

Thanks, looks like I'm guilty then Looks like i will be in for a £400 fine!!

Its a shame they don't notify you straight away so you can change your ways earlier...

I guess nothing lost by trying an appeal.


But what i don't understand is why only since april have i started getting these penalty's?

Also how early before end of the month can i submit? To save me forgetting on the last day of the month.

Well a little update.

I sent an appeal by post, but had no reply so assumed the appeal was declined.


Just logged onto my HRMC login to check my Paye bill, and the fine has been removed!

So can only assume they agreed to the appeal?
