I'm just curious as to what benefit (if any) or downsides (if any) there would be.

I'm guessing there is no real benefit otherwise everyone would be doing it.

The whole offshore registration has a whiff of dishonesty about it doesn't it? Why else would you do it except for tax purposes? The avoidance thereof.
