- I can see them losing ground to the likes of HTC by not being more adventurous in terms of features.
Genuine question (not just trying to be antagonistic here ) - what sort of features do you mean? there were obvious flaws with the first couple - camera, bluetooth, MMS etc, but I really can't think of anything that I'd actively want over and above the 4, if that makes sense? What do some of the other android phones have the that iPHone doesn't, for example?Snoggledog said:

Fair point, but then most people don't upgrade their cars every 2 years.
They most certainly do.Seriously though - amongst my group of friends, peers, colleges etc 2yrs seems to be fairly reasonable assumption of car changing. Here on PH it may be very different of course. I'm certainly not in particularly affluent area either.

Before the iPhone, every year or two, people upgraded their Nokia's/SonyEriccson's etc. mostly sticking a brand they like.
I did exactly that for 13yrs (and have drawers full of Nokias ) - the iPhone 3G was the first non-Nokia phone I ever had and was a bit of a, what's the word, bold move for me to make. But I think it was brilliant.pbirkett said:
Well for starters, wifi tethering (without jailbreak) available for 2.2 onwards, speech to text, free OTA satnav, bluetooth file transfers (STILL!), widgets, superior notifications system, swype keyboard (on some phones), flash support, I've probably (almost certainly) missed some.
Some of those are concious decisions though - it's not them not doing it, it's them saying "we don't want this in our phone".BT transfers they've had for a while with "bump". speech to text i agree with would be good!
What's swype keyboard though?

That "bump" thing is only iPhone to iPhone though is it not?Gone slightly off topic here - apologies.

Interesting times
Indeed. I actually think I'll be of a similar view to you - not a massive change, few OS tweaks and better hardware, but I have had the 3G 18months, able to upgrade no probs and so for the (relative) low outlay thought I might as well! As you say - unless iPhone 5 is big, I think the other phones will get a lot more popular.Eddw86 said:

The chap said I was a Gold customer.gold, silver, platinium etc?
what number did you call?
I called 0844 809 0202, with the keypad options I went to the buying or upgrading, then to upgrading.

Tony, any news?
A wonderful mix up this morning had the DHL driver deliver my phone to 6 xxxxxx Road instead of my address which is 6 xxxxxx close. Bugger. So many phone calls with DHL and O2, and a neighbour that came legging it round the corner means I'm now syncing my new phone. Hurrah!Micro Sim activation took at least, ooooo, 4 seconds! Seriously - I clicked "submit" on the form and the phone said "iphone is activated". Perfect. It's now syncing my contacts/music etc and I will be iPhone4'd up and ready to go in not very long at all.
It's noticeably different to hold, but will report back in an hour when I've had a play, while watching the qualifying from this morning and sitting on the sofa. I also have a "facetime date" with a friend of mine
So, been playing with it a couple hours now.
I like it; the screen is brilliant, and the feel of it is fine - though I can see why some may not like it.
iOS4 is ok too - however, something that really annoyed me, I used to use the double-tap on home button for favorites ALL The time, but it now does the multitasking thing. I can't find how to change that (if at all).
However - facetime is brilliant. Video calls of the past are blocky, slow, laggy and not good. This thing is 100% perfect, and a little freaky at first - it's that good.

I had to have a little search to find out - O2's pack didn't explain anything about the acivation of the micro-sim. Go to www.o2.co.uk/swapmysim and you do it there.
Mine, quite literally, took about 2 seconds
