Get a dog, dog walks and torches are made for each other (well, when it's dark they are)
I'd love one but we're both out at work all day, I'm not sure the rabbits would be overly keen and taking it anywhere in the S40 would be tricky smile

I don't know, but if you have a look at this animated gif from a CPF review you'll see what I mean:

So, it's been a month or so using the Fenix PD35 and like a drug, I want more power! I don't need more power but power is good. The torch is fantastically bright and the design compact and light enough to carry in your pocket at 87 grams.

I also justified the purchase, along with a 18650 battery and Pila charger for walking the dog. Though the torch is so bloody bright I have to leave it on a lower setting as I fear I will blind the poor pooch. Still want more power though!

The torch gives me a sense of safety. I'm a dog walker not a dogger! There have been a couple of instances when out walking the dog, in the pitch dark, that men have wandered waaaay too close for my comfort. Two men should never be within a 50m radius of each other when in a dark park, it's the law. Notch up the power to 850 lumens and it quickly gets rid off the weirdos.

£100 of kit all because of this thread. Worth every penny. Though the torch has 5 settings. The last two are 450 and 850 lumens. There doesn't seen that much in it between the 450 and the claimed 850 lumens. Anyone else notice this? Is my torch faulty or are the power claims exaggerated?

Probably not faulty, lumens is a measure of overall light output, but your eye doesn't register on a straight scale, so to register "twice as bright" to your eyes, you need something like 4 times the lumens (these figures may be wrong in detail, CBA to google it to back my memory up, but the idea is right). Also, the lumens may go more into the spill where you don't notice them as much as they are spread out, or be concentrated into a "longer" beam - try switching modes when you can just see something at the limit of the beam on 450, see if it's better on high.

That's the same one that I was underwhelmed with a dozen or so posts back.

Apologies if I've missed it in a previous post but I see there is a new Led Lenser P7.2 out. Has been available for a few months now.

Anybody tried one? How does it compare with the old P7?

Succumbed once more to this thread.

Just ordered this and this.

Really don't need either one to go with the Fenix E05, Fenix PD32 UE, Lenser B7 and a couple of old Maglites. Why on earth do I think I need 7 torches smile
Apart from being cheaper, whats the difference between this that I've got:

and the one you've ordered:

Is a q3 brighter than a q5?

So I'm looking for a torch for "painting with light" for photography.

It needs to project a very even light with no 'hot spot' in the middle. Range 20-30 feet.

Any ideas?

Most of the smaller flood-to-throw ones will do this. I was using one of these earlier and it is as you ask. Other battery types available with the same head. Also, try tracing or grease-proof paper across the front to flatten out slightly dodgy beam patterns, but you will lose intensity.

I'm using a Lenser p7 at the moment. I need a more powerfull and softer beam.

I'm lost.

I need something that will flood and throw. I also reckon I need about 1000 lumens.

I hate cheap and nasty. Some of the Chinese units look as if they'll last five minutes.

.....it also has to look good.

I've had this torch for a good while now - reliable, quality is fine, andosing is rubbing off a bit in places but I do use it a lot, not too far off 1000 lumens allowing for chinese counting. But manafont messed me around last time I tried to use them, and the security certificate's lapsed, so approach with care - maybe look for the same thing elsewhere.

Real lumens and there isn't really a budget - but for arguement sake, not too far north of £100, preferably under.

Thanks for the link to the Trustfire model. I get the impression though that something like that will be a little hit and miss?

Just so you know what I've been looking at;

Eagletac SX25A6
Eagletac G25C2 MKll
Fenix TK35
Nitecore SRT 7

Do I need something powered by 18650s or will regular AAs do?

I don't need to splash out on the above so if I can get better for less, let me know!

Even if you can get something powered by AA's I'd still go with 18650's.

My knowledge of the more expensive torches is minimal but I was window shopping last week and the G25C2 MkII XM-L U2 caught my eye. Would have to get the diffuser to go with, but that'd still be just a fraction over £100.
