I've posted some thoughts and quite a few sample pictures a few pages back.

Re. the MHL cable I have one at home, I'll test it tonight for you.

Annoyingly I have a scratch on my camera lens. Not in the way of the camera luckily but still enough to piss me off.

The MHL adapter that worked with my One X does not work with my M8. That's not to say it's the phone though as other sources suggest it should work.

If I'm brutally honest, I can't remember the last time I used my MHL connector anyway. If someone wants it they're welcome to it for the cost of P&P.

I haven't rooted or ROM'd yet (quite an achievement as I'm sure those who know what I'm like will attest to!). I'm waiting to see whether any warranty issues arise first what with the phone being so new and the speed with which it came to market.

It's been fine so far though, touch wood. Adverts are annoying as fk though.

Got my M8 to replace my One X earlier this week and loving it so far. Couple of questions you chaps might be able to help me with, though...

Where do I find the Nav app on the M8? On the One X, there was an app called Navigation with a blue triangular icon which was pretty good, but I can't seem to find it, or anything similar on the M8.

Also wondering what the icon is in the top bar here between the bluetooth icon and the data icon? It never goes away, yet when I pull down, there's nothing relating to the icon shown. It's bugging me trying to work out what it is!
Just use the 'Maps' application.

Type in where you're looking for and you get the option to navigate there (and choose car, public transport, cycling or walking too). The 'Navigation' application was a little redundant as Maps does it all now.

It will depend entirely on your usage profile, how bright you have the screen etc etc. YMMV as they say.

I've found it's excellent, here's a screenshot of mine which came off-charge this morning around 8am, no power-saving in use:

I'll finish up tonight on at least 50% remaining.

I prefer HTC's one to the one on my Nex 7 if that helps?

Holy st, I just installed SwiftKey! How bloody awesome is it! You don't even need to touch the space bar, bonkers.
Why not use the HTC built-in one? You don't need to touch the space bar on that either and having used that, Swype, SwiftKey and the standard Google Nexus 'swipe' keyboard, the HTC is, imo, the best.

Have others not yet discovered the joys of swipy keyboards? I thought everyone knew about them. Couldn't use a phone without one now.

Yep, gotta be a rogue app. Android wouldn't have used that much on its own!

Bit lighter on the use for me today:

6h off-charge, some Bluetooth streaming to the car on the way to work and the odd bit of checking emails, texts etc. If your battery's not lasting, you're doing something wrong.

I'm also deeply impressed with the Spigen case. Adds a bit of bulk but that also adds a whole chunk of protection - I dropped it in the car park getting out of the car the other day and winced as it hit the floor. Not a mark on it! <phew>

I've found an unusual issue.

When in my Spigen case, the phone misbehaves when on charge. The screen seems to 'mis-register' the presses resulting in it going a little crazy. Removing the charger returns it to normal behaviour. It is also fine when on charge out of the case. I'm at a loss to explain why this should be the case (pun intended) but it really does seem that the case is having some sort of effect.

Spigen have agreed to exchange the case for me so I can test with a different one and I'll be interested to see whether it does the same. If it does, I'll need to change cases as it's a very irritating issue.

I remember a couple of others here have them, good to hear you've not encountered any issues.

It's very strange - there' s no reason I can think of why it would do this but I can replicate the issue 'on-demand' so something's definitely amiss.

Phone not rooted either, standard HTC charger and USB lead.

I've just had a similar issue with my M7 so thought I'd post. I've just had exactly the same thing happen while my phone was in my new diztronic case. If I unplug it's fine, and if I take it out of the case it's fine. I restarted my phone and the problem is still there.

I don't have much knowledge on this matter, but my only thought is that maybe the type of rubber/plastic used is causing some sort of static on the screen.
Interesting that you've encountered a similar issue - I guess it could indeed be static or the material but then I'd have expected a phone case manufacturer to have considered this...

The case went back to Spigen this week so I'll wait for them to send out a different one I can test with. If it does it again I'll be asking them for a refund I think. It wasn't a cheap case!

Mine's working just great, no issues to report. The replacement Spigen case hasn't resolved the funky touchscreen response issues but it doesn't do it in any other case so it must just be something to do with the Spigen and not the phone. It's not really an issue as the only time it's ever on charge now is when I'm asleep and I like the Spigen case too much to change from it for the time being.

Actually I'll take that back - kind of. Whilst googling around the problem it appears there is more knowledge around since this issue was last raised. Apparently there is a residue on the lens cover left over from manufacturing. Several guides on the net with users using brasso or toothpaste on the end of a cotton bud to remove it. Problem solved.
After reading your post I decided I might as well have a crack at mine. I started with toothpaste and all it did was make the whole thing go hazy. st.

So I switched to AutoGlym Glass Polish (well it is PH after all..) as I know it has a very mild cutting action. Some delicate cleaning later and it's definitely removed a 'layer' from the top of the lens - you can see some small remnants of it around the edges in my picture below. As that part of it isn't in any way important in taking pictures I decided to quite whilst I was ahead - the pictures look great again and the scratch has gone. I'm not sure the pictures from the Nexus 7 show it brilliantly but it's done a great job removing the scratch that was irking me and cleaned up the hazy mess left by the toothpaste. I would utterly recommend something designed to be used on glass and/or plastic rather than toothpaste.

Whether that 'layer' was in some way protective will remain to be seen, I'll post back if it now gets scratched to buggery!
