He includes a detailed product placement in every one of his videos, which, you can skip - though he does cleverly include content during the promotions. That's fine. The inserted ads are not, and if I lose the ability to skip them, I'll tune out.

It's a good point - product placements that are part of the video are less intrusive. I do my fair share of daily ad consumption by having to sit through multiple "Car Vertical" segments... Ahem... double tap on the right side of the screen repeatedly on a mobile device or use the right arrow key on a computer g4ry13 said:
Still working on my Chrome (without employing any methods mentioned here). Not sure if anyone else has encountered similar.
Maybe Google has been told they can't legally enforce it in certain regions."Detection of adblockers by Youtube may be illegal under EU regulations."

So I started having problems in Brave; the video stutters and the browser just seems really slow. I traced this back to Windows 11 'efficiency' setting, which presumably throttles the app. Is this part of MS's attempt to screw rival browsers, me wonders... Anyway, with my tinfoil hat now removed, I added the following argument to the target field in the Brave shortcut Properties dialogue:
--disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess
(Make sure you add a space before pasting that in).
I've now also seen that the same thing appears to be happening to Edge. I think any Chromium based browser will be affected. The fix is the same
However, now it managed to block an advert but it still made me wait the length of the advert.
I'm now trying Edge again with Adblock Plus and Fadblock, kind of going for the nuclear option. Not sure if it'll help.
The next thing to explore will be this - Ghostify: https://www.ghostery.com/blog/adblocker-not-workin...
Must admit though if it gets too tedious I'll probably throw in the towel. I know, they win, but I use it loads to be fair, including the music, and it'll be almost worthwhile to not have to faff on all the time and have it work on all my devices.
Although as one last two fingered salute, I could sign up via a foreign country, although I'm sure they'll clamp down on that too in time, if not already. Should I go this route, I'm presuming I should use a new Google account to do it, or risk having my primary one banned? Then I'd have to transfer all my subs and playlists? All of which would seem to be a ball ache?

It appears to be very random. I have 2 PCs using the same Google account, and one is definitely performing better than the other at blocking ads although it still doesn't block them all, despite both machines having the same extensions in Chrome.
One of the articles on that Ghostify website seems to suggest Google are experimenting with code at the minute which is causing the issues.I bet they have allocated a large amount of resources to eventually make ad blocking all but unviable, or at least extremely difficult in the near future.
As always with this sort of thing, it's always a cat and mouse game. However, it gets to the point where you question the amount of time you're spending chasing workarounds when it costs the equivalent of less than an hour of your time at work per month, particularly when you're using it for many hours a week.
What would be interesting is, lets say hypothetically, they forced everyone onto Premium eventually, then would they then start serving ads to paying customers?
Seems like chromium based browsers are just crap now for me with YouTube. I'm not getting adverts but it's running slow and stuttering at times. Big difference from what it used to be.
Currently experimenting with Firefox and ublock origin. No ads yet and performance seems much better.

The ghostery website has something about why Firefox browsers are better than Chromium browsers at the moment, some difference in underlying technology which has affected the way ad blockers interact with Web pages. Guess that's the danger of Google running their own browser, if they don't like something they can change the browser.

I've ran Adblock Plus free add blocker for years until yesterday.
I have just installed FadBlock and it worked a treat after I disabled the Adblock Plus free.
Same experience here. Disabled AB for Youtube only, installed Fadblock.I have just installed FadBlock and it worked a treat after I disabled the Adblock Plus free.
Amazing to notice just how many ads its skipping (was blissfully unaware previously)
Touch wood but I'm getting the best experience I've had yet from Firefox and Ublock origin.
I'm staying clear of Chromium browser's for now.
In fact if it wasn't for Edges ALT TAB functionality for switching between tabs which I use all the time, I'd be seriously considering moving over to Firefox full time.

As I have alluded to in another post, there is 'safer' way to do this, and I am happy to share it privately. You can Google (lol) it, but it does take some digging.Old MacBook Pro (2017 running OS 10.13.6 "High Sierra" and Firefox 115.4.0) is now blighted by ads in YouTube. New MacBook Pro (2023 running OS 14.0 "Sonoma" and Firefox 119.0) is completely ad free in YouTube. I guess my older Mac can't now run the newest versions of Firefox that are needed to support the newest versions of uBlock Origin.
ETA: Just restarted my old Mac (which usually just gets left turned on) and uBlock Origin is now showing as the latest version and the ads are gone!
