Yeah, they did well with that one didn't they. Will be interesting to see which sells better.

I honestly can't see why anybody would buy a Galaxy S5 over the HTC or Xperia Z2...

HTC vs Z2 is an interesting match up; I've wanted the HTC One for ages, but now I'm leaning towards the Z2. The HTC doesn't have anything over the Z2, although it does do a few things better.

The Z2 seems to be the perfect blend of the S5 and HTC One; waterproof, front facing speakers, metal body, micro SD, decent camera. I think the Z2 might win this on paper, but sales are what count...

So did the announcement mention if a mini was coming? Not seen anything about an S5 mini or Z2 compact so it looks like the Z1 mini is still the only option for those of who want a smart phone rather than a mini tablet.

Interesting review here http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_m8-review-1062p11....

Seems to be a slightly improved HTC One with a slightly worse camera (OIS has been removed for a fake 3D effect). Given how unimpressed they were with the original One's camera, they seem to be leaning more towards the Z2/S5 (not that GSMA ever tell you which one they prefer).

Three have the S5, HTC One M8 and Z2 all available on pre-order.

HTC delivery date is 28th March, the other two are set for mid-April.

Interestingly, the HTC One M8 is priced at £459.99 yet the HTC One M7 is £549.99; albeit for the 32GB. It seems that internal memory still dictates the price....

EE have it available to order now but I'm trying to find out whether it comes with pure HTC build on it rather than EE's version with loads of bloatware. I would rather not have to faff about selling a new handset in order to buy one without the crap on it. I'm hoping that with the time-to-market that's in play, EE haven't had time to cock about with the M8.

Ideal scenario: EE supply my new phone, HTC supply the updates etc. The EE site is down so I'll probably put a call in to them at lunchtime to see what's what.

Phones4U have it in store today. Just had a quick look. Very thin, very light but still feels solid in the hand. Too big for me though.

EE confirmed that whilst the phone is network-locked, updates for it will come direct from HTC which is perfect.

So mine arrives tomorrow in gunmetal grey. Oops. biggrin I may also have ordered the View dot matrix cover (that won't be here until next week though).

£9.99 for the phone
Unlim calls
Unlim texts
20Gb 4G double-speed
Tethering
VOIP

£28.79/mo with my discount.

Now to sell the One X and car dock...

That really is a good deal, no matter what the phone is.

Seems I may have been lied to about the updates. I'll see what the phone has on it when it turns up tomorrow. If it's full of EE stuff, I may send it back - I would sell it on, but EE specifically mentioned that I couldn't resell it for at least 6 months, apparently it legally belongs to them until then. How they'd know/what they'd do about it I have no idea. It's likely that clause applies to all new contract phones regardless, so my plan to sell an 'unwanted upgrade' on to fund a SIM-free One M8 is probably a non-starter.

The tardy operator update were my greatest frustration with my One X, so a non-EE build is a must for me. I'm also not sure how long I'll last without rooting it to go ad-free. I lasted 3 days with my Nexus 7! I'm not in a position to buy one SIM-free outright yet, all my spare cash at the moment is going toward a freehold purchase...

I've been so relieved since rooting mine to get rid of all the fking ads. Although even with ad away installed and up to date, I have still been getting one advert in the 'what to watch' section of my youtube.

With that and adblock on my computer, it is so much less frustrating to do what I want on the web.

Heh, there's already a version of ARHD for the M8. Nice to know I can sort it and go my own way like I did with the One X.

Edit: Just found EE lied about the storage too - it's 16Gb not 32Gb. I'll be bouncing the delivery tomorrow and rejecting the phone.

I'm actually considering mugging off EE completely after this, they're taking the piss.

Not sure if it's manufacturer specific, but I know for the Xperia Z series, there is no EE version of the firmware - they just use the unbranded one. Although to further add to the confusion, on the Z the operator updates in the UK come out before the Generic one, hence why I'm on German software....

Can't wait for Vodafone to get theirs in on the 10th April (an operator told me yesterday)

Seems late compared to rest, don't know whether to stick to my M7 till A) the price has dropped and B) see if they offer a blue one

Hopefully being a loyal customer they'll do a bit better upgrade deal. Only with them as I get 20% discount with work, that EE deal sounds amazing!

It is a good deal but I'm not getting what I thought I was so going to hold off for what I actually want. Very disappointed today to say the least. EE fking suck.

If it helps, I'm pissed off as well, Vodafone online assistant told me yesterday that it was 10th April, but lo and behold you can order one now!

Anyone have any experience of 4g in the Midlands, is 4g anywhere really worth it?
