I have an HTC Hero (T Mob G2) on 24 months. 1200 mins, unlimited internet, £25. Should be £35, discounted for loyalty.
I like Android, but T Mobile coverage is crap.
Using it for the last few months to receive calls from customers and the number who get an "unavailable" message or ring-out while the phone is with me, with a good signal, is getting beyond a joke.
T Mobile want a list of 4 problem calls in one day, with location of caller, my location and time of day, in order to trace the problem. This, after much fobbing off.
How the hell do I do that..?
Install the app HulloMail as a workaround- will let you know caller even if didnt leave a messageI like Android, but T Mobile coverage is crap.

I'm very tempted with one of these, but just looked to see how much they cost!
I'm knocking my iPhone contract down to £15 a month, (waiting for new version)
and just found out these desires cost MORE than an iPhone! £439 + the cost of a 16gb chip, Vs. the £449 for the iPhone
Ouch!
where can you buy a sim free 16g 3gs for £449? Desire is £395 at mobilefun and i think £379 at expansysI'm knocking my iPhone contract down to £15 a month, (waiting for new version)

and iPhones are how old?Ouch!
It's like saying "I've just found out this new, better, more powerful laptop costs MORE then an old, dated and slower one (that is about to be superseded by a newer more expensive one). Ouch!"

I'd normally avoid any comparison since one is a new device and one is a older device thats going to be shortly replaced but since you bought up the price I thought I would.

ah yea, I totally get what your saying, but I always thought I paid a massive premium for buying an Apple phone/product, just didnt realise that the HTC products had got to the same cost!
For anyone who's interested in a 12 month Desire deal.
I bought mine the day before yesterday, says it was despatched last night after them not having stock of them when they say they did.
900 mins anytime any network unlimited texts, free phone, gadget support (whatever that is) & insurance for a month.
Add a £5 bundle for unlimited net onto the top of it.
Cost £45 p/month on Vodafone. + £5 for the internet.
BUT....
It may sound expensive, factor this into it. 4 months half price line rental @ £22.50 a go = £90
Go through quidco for the deal £50 cashback.
Recycling my G1 £70 online.
Total cost of contract £600
Total Saving from cashback etc. £210
Total cost of contract over 12 months £390.
Per month cost £32.50P.
& you can upgrade after 12 months.
It's not with T-mobile so no dodgy signal anywhere!

Anyone who has managed to get hold of a Desire might want to download this app for it:

Having had this for yet another day, I have the odd issue.
Battery Life - Casual use throughout the day will exhaust the battery within about 12-14 hours. Not a problem if you want to charge it through the night. With heavy use, I would imagine that you're going to need to charge it through the day.
When I am receiving texts from a 3rd party (E.g T Mobile, Natwest etc), it always says its from the first person on my address book/facebook account. I'm not sure whats causing this but I'm sure my mate Adam hasnt been sending me them!
The phone is fast and very responsive. I've used it for over an hour constantly and found that it doesnt lag at all.
Camera seems to be fairly decent and is a much better offering than iPhone.
Music player as has been mentioned is a let down due to lack of EQ. Other functionality of the player is fairly good with the options of playlists, searches via artist/album etc and the nice visuals with the phone downloading album covers for you.
Internet is amazing. I've hardly had to touch the laptop these last couple of days as its that good. The keyboard is also brilliant and identifies probably 98% of the words that you enter, even if you get them wrong (Which I have regularly done). Browsing PH, BBC, BikesportNews is a joy and I've even managed to do online banking with it.
Apps - Android market obviously isnt as big as Appstore but its fairly easy to search on. BeebPlayer hasnt been working on my phone for some reason and no matter what I try, I cant get it to pass by the loading stage.
Youtube looks brilliant on the AMOLED screen, the colours are very crisp and vibrant. If you had a 16gb card, I cant see why you couldnt download a couple of movies to watch on this screen.
Phone functionality is good too, It has all the usual options of speed dialling, search by number/name etc and the loudspeaker is decent on it (on par with my old N95). Although it doesnt have noise cancelling on it, when I tried it whilst in an old noisy car, I could still hear the conversation and they could hear me clearly via loudspeaker without having to shout etc.
Friendstream is useful if you use facebook as it provides notifications when things are posted. I prefer the syncing of the likes of Hotmail/Gmail as it pops up as a message when one arrives in your box.
Overall i'm mightily impressed with this phone. As the Android market grows, i'm sure it'll only get better. The only let down would have to be the battery but I am running 3g/wireless connections on it and its syncing weather/facebook periodically through the day. I'll probably buy a 2nd battery once available for when I need it and can't access a charger. With the phone having the new micro USB connector, it means I can charge it in the car through my stereo rather than using the 12v Cig lighter. I havent tried bluetooth as yet so not sure what it can/can't do.
