Can anyone recommend a head-torch that's switchable between white and red? Does such a thing exist?
I had a lovely night flying session last night - first time in many years that I've flown at night. A head-torch is an ideal piece of equipment for if the panel lighting should fail (or the instructor has switched it off to make you cope without it). I used my usual one, which was okay, but I had to be very careful not to look directly at the instructor otherwise I'd have instantly wrecked his dark adaptation.
So a red one would be good - but you also need white for looking at the map because any red markings will disappear under red light. Hence my desire for one that's switchable between white and red. Variable brightness would be a good feature as well.
I've looked on the usual pilot supplies shops (Transair etc), but didn't see what I was looking for and of course they all apply the "aviation tax". I'm not keen to pay £70+.

I've got a cheap Banggood one that does exactly that, bright white with two brightness settings, plus red. I'll see if I can find the link. Just me? Reall?
Cycling through loads of modes does get on my nerves (hence why I've set my C8 to 100% only mode) but with a decent driver it bothers me less - long soft press to cycle back, short soft press to cycle forwards.Or have a look at this one if it bothers you enough to really loosen the purse strings - set your modes how you want them by bluetooth:

Certainly interesting, cusmisable I suppose is half way there. I'll check to see if I can set to say 30% and turbo on the l6 it's arrived and looks very well made for a 45 quid torch but the batteries haven't. I can't get on with long press, short press, I'm just a cave man who doesn't have the finesse I'd rather have three buttons than one that does multiple depending on how you press it.

Nice one. I've had it a year and use it every evening throughout the GMT nights.I ordered from Amazon and its on same day delivery.
I like the way it focuses from flood to spot easily and remembers where you left off.
The red light function is really useful too.
For sub £15 it's a winner. It's so small you just wrap it in the headband and put it in your pocket.
Only the pivot lets it down. Functional but feels fragile but that said, it hasn't broke yet despite lots of use. Still on the original energizer batteries too.

If tail clicky on then separate side buttons to increase and decrease power then have a look at some of the Nitecore lights - I've got an MT10C with that setup and it's about as simple as it comes. I've got a few of these and they've been great. Our village has no street lighting so it can be extemely dark wandering down the pub etc.I like the way it focuses from flood to spot easily and remembers where you left off.

Having the red light is handy as it can be used as a rear light when walking in a group, much more visible to traffic than a point of white light which can oftem be mistaken for a headlamp reflection.

Wow, that really IS nerdy torch rambling at its most professional. Well done.Having the red light is handy as it can be used as a rear light when walking in a group, much more visible to traffic than a point of white light which can oftem be mistaken for a headlamp reflection.

Humm, I have an issue with the Convoy I just got. Tried it out and was majorly impressed with how powerful it is for so little money but when I started tapping the switch to set the mode I want it seems to have got stuck on low?
Any ideas?
You might want to post up over here if you don't get it sorted:Any ideas?
