The Sony Z3 is top of my list at the moment, but the new nexus is due out any moment now

I will post some pictures up when it arrives with a mini review. It's the first phone I was excited about since the HTC Desire arrived.

I was looking at one, but after a woeful Wildfire from them I'm a little unsure to say the least.

For what it's worth, a wildfire was one of HTC's budget phones. Even back then, they were shyte.

Even the difference between the original Desire and the Wildfire was pretty marked. So don't let that put you off the One M8.

I have a Z3 and it is amazing, the battery life is brilliant, you just can't run it down.

To answer the OP, I'm currently in the market for a new phone, and will be coming from a Galaxy S3.

Top of the list is the iPhone 6, that's what I really want, and it'll integrate seamlessly with my MacBook too. However, I'm pretty concerned by the amount of glitches that seem to be appearing on iOS 8, even with the latest update.

Second choice would be the Sony Experia Z3 Compact.

Another vote for the Nexus5 here. It's the only android phone I keep coming back to (despite having an iPhone6 and iPhone5S)

hehe
Never said it was too big, just pointing out that it's on the "very big" end of the spectrum, something potential buyers should be aware of.
My phone is nearly identical in size smile.

They'll fix the most important glitches no doubt.

The Z3 compact is half a size smaller than the iPhone 6 though.
In physical size, the 6 sits between the Z3 compact and Z3, resp 4.6", 4.7" and 5.2":

I'm currently waiting for my Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro to arrive. Very hard getting them in the UK but from what I've read these will be the phone to conquer all. Just about fit the OP's price range at around £600 but I won't be able to confirm this until it's passed through customs.

Here's a vid, it's already in India but not here hence the Indian review smile

Killer phone I think.

32gb memory with no card slot is pretty limiting though, isn't it?

Aye, and tbh, the size is one of the appealing things about the Z3 compact. I don't have an issue with the size of my S3, and having played with the iPhone 6, I don't have an issue with that either, but *sometimes* I feel a bit fed up with not being able to use the phone with 100% comfort one handed. Z3 Compact is also pretty cool in green or orange (tho the photos make it look red to me)

The compact strikes me as the perfect balance between size and performance. As I said tho, it's really the 6 I want but I'm deliberately holding off to see if the glitches get ironed out.

I want to get a new phone.

Don't mind android or IOS. Not WP!

£5-600 budget.

Micro Sim preferable, although not vital. (can cut to nano)
you realise you're just asking for a vast number of pages of android versus iphone bickering, to which you will not be able to glean any useful conclusion?

So far so good. It's a great phone. Big, but still goes in the jeans pocket. Battery life way better than my S4. It's much faster too. For the money, you wont find better. And if you do, I 'd love to hear about it.
How big are your jeans!

A guy at work has one of these. I would say it is a lot closer to a tablet than a phone.

I wouldn't get an iPhone6 because of all of the problems, and the sheer cost of it (need larger storage) a 32gb iPhone 5S would be the sweet spot, or the HTC One M8 as it can be expanded up to that.

What about the LG G3? I had a play with one the other day and was quite impressed. I've had a G2 for a while and it's served me well.

Lovely 4K screen on the G3.

I looked at this when I upgraded a week ago and the screen was very nice but it takes a big hit on the battery and I don't think it was a must have feature TBH. As I said, I went for the Xperia Z3 and it is fantastic. This morning on the way to work I streamed music to my car over BT for the 2 hours it took to get into work, had the screen on for about 1/2 hour and downloaded 1Gb data over HSDPA/4G and was at 89% when I got to work. This was with everything turned on as well.

They're not even in the same league (fwiw, I've also owned the G1, Hero, Desire & One X so I've experienced HTC's successes and lows!). Build quality is exceptional, sound and screen quality is incredible and you have stoarage expansion options with SD card (got a 64Gb in mine but it'll take up to 128Gb). Battery life is fantastic, I could get 2 days out of mine without trying if I didn't charge overnight out of habit.

It's been well-received by most of the trusted reviewers and tech sites:

Techradar's Phone of the Year: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communicat...

T3 Phone of the Year: http://www.t3.com/news/t3-gadget-awards-2014-htc-o...

CNET 'Outstanding': http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/htc-one-m8/

Its predecessor hoovered up similar awards and plaudits too. It really should be on your shortlist.
