Why do you think they invented Sky+Gadget show - 15 mins
Crap - the remainder telling you all the things you could win but have a snowballs chance in hell of winning - fast forward x 30
Fifth Gear - 15 minutes

Irritating tt in an insurance commercial - fast forward x 30

Thanks for the pointer towards 'Click'! Much better.
Isn't Click only on at 4:30am on a silly night of the week or something? The BBC really need to put this at a more prime time slot on a main BBC channel.
Why dont they do some consumer information like what is the difference between intel cores or what graphics card or something of interest.
Last piece I enjoyed was the retro section - Gadget wall of fame.

I think you mean 'Tivo invention of the century' Murdoch and his masses bought out the UK rights to Tivo, and killed it here, so they could launch their inferior Sky+ boxes....
Even today, my 5+ year old Tivo does everything Sky+ does, and better.
The modern Tivos, that you cant buy/use in the UK are even better.
Back on topic, The Gadget show turned to ste 4 or 5 series ago, total waste of time even recording it..
But at least 5th gear has got the message and is getting watchable again.

Generally dislike the gadget show, although I may flick onto it if I happen to put the TV on and there's nothing else on.
Totally unscientific and the presenters are annoying, especially moby.
Watch click religiously (on iPlayer) and it's mostly pretty good. If anything they could be a bit more geeky, the bit at the end where the woman goes through some websites could be shortened and/or the show could be doubled in length.
Although nothing screams at me as amazing, I think I generally really like Spencer's presenting style.

but for me the main advantages of Tivo are..
It does 'series recording' better, ie I tell it to record Top Gear, it just does, I dont have to set a new series link, for each series, it also picks up episodes on Dave etc, and records them. I can also tell it to get every episode, or to ignore repeats, or even ones I've recorded/watched before...
It 'learns' what you like watching, and then records it for your automatically...
So for instance, I watch lots of skiing, so it 'knows' to record anything with skiing or in it, skiing related, whether I've asked it to or not...
This can be further refined by telling it to record anything with key words in the program description, the result is, you end up with lots of stuff that you might otherwise have missed.
Or you can highlight programs you particulary like, (as you are watching them), so that it then 'looks' for similiar and records them automatically in the future.
Its upgradable, and user 'modifyable'... so I've installed much bigger hard disks, ( I'm upto 360Gb, but you can configure it into Terrabytes now),
I can access it from the web, or my phone, it sends me an email every day saying what is recorded, and what its upto..
It isnt tied to sky... so if I record a film, it doesnt 'expire' when I've watched it, or after a certain date.
The user interface is more friendly, and slicker..
On the downside...
They don't sell them in the UK any more, so you can only get them secondhand on ebay etc..
You need a subscription, either £200 lifetime, ( mines been running for over 5 years so I reckon I get vfm ), or monthly.. about £10 I think.
It only has single tuner, so you need a second digibox to watch other channels when you are recording.
It doesnt do HD.
Cant think of much else thats bad about it ! And those issues are addressed in later versions, but they cant be used in the UK, as Murdoch stopped them being sold here
So in conclusion, its like sky+, but better...
Its a shame that Murdoch has effectivly killed it in the UK, because the newer models are even better, but then I guess thats his standard operating method
ALthough it looks as though Tivo are providing the middleware for Virgin Medias new set top boxes.
