Sickbeard looks very nice, just need to work out how to get it running on a Mac. I was using uTorrent RSS downloader to do the same thing on my windows box, but the Mac version doesn't have the same functionality.

Consider, too, a popcorn hour. Really easy to use, expandable until you can't afford any more hard drives, and plays (quite literally) anything.

It's all about the streaming from a main computer for me. I'll most likely get one to replace my media pc smile
That was my thought.. would get rid of the media centre PC in the living room...

Having investigated a bit more thoroughly, i'll probably go for a WD TV Live instead, which is cheaper and has more functionality smile

I will wait to see what the navigation and UI is like on the Apple TV before making a final decision, as that is what is really important to me, the technical aspects can all be dealt with.

This is less than a sixth of the cost of the cheapest mac mini now.
Hadn't realised such a gap had grown - am certain there was only 1-200 quid between them previously.

New one looks very neat. If I weren't already using a Mini I'd consider one (am sure it'll be able to stream from non-iTunes sources soon enough).

I am surprised though, it's actually cheap for Apple. The previous Apple TV was something like £240 which was ott. It's actually cheap full stop.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a dullard when it comes to this stuff.

Does this mean I can stream a Divx or Xvid file off my laptop onto my TV via WiFi?

Not as it stands, to my understanding. Unless you can get it into itunes on a desktop maybe (I've no idea) to stream from there. Thinking about it, maybe someone's written a fake itunes server program that could do it.

If someone gets Linux onto it, then yes, it'll certainly do a superb job of that.

720p, anyone who has a PS3 / Xbox 360 already has something better than this.

It will only stream content that is in iTunes.

iTunes won't natively play Divx files, but you can transcode any video file into an iTunes compatible format by using something like Handbrake ( http://handbrake.fr/ ) and then drop that file into iTunes if you can be bothered biggrin

Thats what I was thinking, and if you have Sky package you can register this on your Xbox - they have 350+ movies and hundreds of TV shows to stream for free, aswell as the ability to buy and stream HD movies via the Zune player.

Pretty much all the Archos products also do the streaming from your PC, and they're portable.

I think the Apple TV would be great if it had an internal hard drive and more stuff to stream, but as it is its not for me.

(I'm not trying to slate Apple here, just mentioning there are alternatives that people may not be aware of)

Or indeed anyone who currently has an AppleTV!

Looks good and I would be interested, but as mentioned the Mac Mini makes better sense as an HTPC.
