...and this is why I didn't want a carrier version of the build. Who knows when EE will update it?

Had mine from launch day, non network build as always! It is a great peice of kit, upgraded from a Galaxy S3 and I already prefer it however I will criticise two things.

One: The standard predictive text is no-where near as good as the S3 in my opinion
Two: The notification LED stinks, it is st there is no other way to describe it which is a pitty!

Battery life is superb, I get two days of average use from it and used the camera over the weekend for some video at Donington and it is fantastic, photos are much better than my S3 as well so unless the S5 or Z2 are taking DSLR quality images then I don't really see what peoples complaints are on the camera front. The screen is a thing of beauty and the speakers superb for a phone and better than some laptops.

I'm this close to rooting it and putting ARHD on it...

Agree about the notification LED although it's miles better than the One X's pitiful effort.

My theory on the camera (I'll expand more later tonight) is that it's actually very good but it's just the auto mode that's not very well set up, hence most peoples' gripes. The granular control you have over everything is almost unheard of on a smartphone but most people will never use them or know how to get the best out of the options.

Have just ordered the M8 from Vodafone (upgrade from my S3).

Got unlimited text/calls plus 3gb data for £39.50 monthly (includes VAT). Well pleased with that - Got 15% discount for suffering them for 20+ years.

Yay, finally in stock with GiffGaff so got mine ordered and it's on it's way!

Now to order an memory card and think about a case.

Any recommendations?

bks I've ordered a "you wot" M8. O2 got me with the £100 House of frasier voucher. I've got 7 days so can send it back and ask them to send a Z2 to when it's out if it comes to that.

Just in case anyone's still wanting to hear about battery life, here's today's usage. I had the battery saver mode on today and had an awful lot more use from the phone as you can see. Still at 20% with lots of 'awake' time. Very impressed, the One X would've been dead hours ago.

Erm, my Z has spent a similar amount of time on a 1 year old battery that spends half its time in a car dock. Stamina mode has just kicked in as it's just dropped below 30%, 28% to be precise. Similar amounts of screen time etc, and the Z isn't really known for sipping juice. Far from it in fact.

Fair enough, although I'd be interested if you could post up a screenshot of yours for comparison?

However not wanting to piss on your new toy too much, batteries in these things do seem to improve after a few charges, so I'd expect the battery life out the M8 to increase over the next week or so. Plus the Z, being a year old, has gone well past the new shiny stage and just gets used when I need it (still quite a bit mind).

If they were to release the Google Play Edition over here it would become a serious contender for me, I'm just not a fan of the heavy skin jobs HTC and Samsung do on Android. I can cope with Sony's skin as its quite close to vanilla with Sony's lush media apps, but if it was still like the early days of the Xperia (anyone who had an X10 will remember) I'd be rocking a Nexus.

Glad you're enjoying the handset though Funk, this and the Z2 really do look like awesome bits of kit.

Sure, not a problem. It has been on charge since the time I posted as I'm finishing a couple of emails off in bed.

Screen time is on around 2 and a half hours, Bluetooth, 3G and WiFi have been on throughout. I'm guessing the fact I'm in Spain is why Google OS and Services are getting so hungry, with Google Now trying to find stuff for me to take a photo of.

As an aside, one thing I do love about EE is their roaming bundles, been using 3G to my hearts content all day and it's cost me less than 2 quid. Admittedly it should be free, but this is a mobile network we are talking about smile

Talk to me about Micro SD cards... I have a 32gb SanDisk Micro SDHC that I bought for something else but thinking I probably want more space than that. I'm not going to fork out £100+ for a 128gb one so 64gb it is.

You seem to be able to get one for around the £40 mark. Does that sound right to you lot?

Speed it probably important, no point having a huge card if it takes ages to copy loads of stuff to/from it. The higher the 'class' the better, I imagine you'd want Class10 or better.

I suspect I'm just about to order one of those too, as my 32Gb model is chock full. Good spot Mr Funk.

A higher speed card would be largely irrelevant in a phone. Class 2 or 4 is fine.

I don't think it would save much if you could get a slower one? My theory is IR might not always be in the phone (I've been meaning to get a C10 card for my Pi) so might as well get a fast one!
