My hosting has gone up from £59.99 to £71.99 without notice. Not the greatest amount I know, but a bit cheeky to just do it.

Feel like moving on the principle of it!

Their response:

Thanks for getting in touch.

Since 2003 we have offered the same great service without any price adjustments. Over those 15 years we have absorbed the cost of inflation rather that passing the cost on to our customers. Due to the effects of inflation and a weaker pound, our hosting was cheaper in real terms than it ever has been. We needed to make a one-off adjustment to address this so that we can keep offering the same excellent standards of service and continue investing in our infrastructure, improving reliability, performance and features. We have increased the prices of core TsoHost products by 20%. This only extends to hosting products and not domains.

You should've received a notification but I've reviewed your account and wasn't able to locate any email on the matter. Please accept our deepest apologies for that.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

redcard

Maybe between 2003 and about 2015, but I experienced the sudden price increases last year and am about to move my last server away from them.

I had another issue with Vidahost over the weekend. They changed the IP address for one of the servers that one of my clients sites was on, meaning it could no longer be reached. Took the opportunity to move the site to my Krystal server and slowly moving all clients sites away.

an old flash from the past. however figured it was worth a mention on the relaunch of an PH favourite, www.Register1.net
Simply due to the death of TSO/Vida and the seeming market desire for someone to give a damn about hosting customer service again!

Jamie,

Do you have a site builder available on Reg1?

I did a base site within the TSO hosting which I would like to keep.

Thanks.

Biggest issue for me is that I have a package with TSO that lets me host several domains (I think it is 6, but they actually allow more) and sub-domains on the same package. As in, completely separate web sites, with different content, MySQL databases, PHP versions, etc. They all share the same bandwidth, though, which makes it very flexible.

With Register1 I needed to buy a Virtual Host for each one. Even for low bandwidth sites.

I think it's figurative, my sites on TSO are all up...

Service has taken a steady decline over the last x months. I imagine Register1 (with Jamie or not) has decided it lost too many customers to them and shape up!

Same here.

According to Jetpack, I've not had many outages - not like with (old) Register1 in its death throes which was up and down like a tart's knickers. However, I am getting outages which I never used to - it used to be rock solid.

Ticket support is much slower than before, but still adequate. TSO is in decline, for sure, but far from dead yet.

The old Register1 is dead - they got out of the hosting and domain registrar game altogether and moved people to their new brand (I forget what it is). From what I understand (happy for Jamie to correct me) this resurrected Register1 is an ex-management buyout with Jamie back on board.

TSO for me has been good, they deal with my calls instantly and the only issue I had was some slowness on email delivery.

If Register1 can beat the current package and its cheaper, then I may just move across, but little bit wary until I have seen it working for a few months.

I used TSOs new live chat support the other day. Was on with someone within 20 seconds and the problem was resolved straightaway (was my fault the problem had occurred!)

I was talking figuratively,

since TSO/Vida sold to GoDaddy Ive been hearing things polar opposites of what they used to be like (in much the same way as with Register1)

Those who are still enjoying TSO, carry on..

Those who aren't, let me know what you want/need and I'll work out how we can implement it.

It's going to be a staggered "comeback" for Reg1, an initial launch, followed by a year or so of evolution of offerings, primarily to ensure that it actually delivers what customers want, not simply what pre-packaged constants tell us we can offer!

As for the questions already asked here, I dont want to make this a PR thread, so feel free to pop an email over to me (or the reg1 team) and they'll be happily answered smile

Hah I sold the company in 2012, and then in 2015 took parts of it back, now we're relaunching Register1 again smile

The F40 was from the first go round wink
