How can I really get free off these spyware/adware on my comp for no charge????????
Download the trial version of Spysweeper
and also run Adaware
There are some more of these types of programs but the above two are the best in each of there fields.
I was alarmed that my pc has been infected by spyware and now even after cleaning it still pops that alarm window up. Also messed up my internet homepage url and says just about:blank now.Not able to change it??
you should be able to easily change your homepage url, about:blank is just a default for those who don't want a homepage, though some programs try to change it to their own. Just goto a tools>settings in most webbrowsers, should be round there somewhere.

I think 'Cool Web Search' changes your homepage to about:blank. Neither ad-aware or MS-Antispyware can get rid of it permenantly in its current form, but if you google for CWShredder that should sort it. If not I think you'l need your own thread
Or even a whole website

And a good find for when your codecs are stuffed, or you can't find the right one, or media player absolutely refuses to use the right codec - VLC media player.

For those of you that use the Firefox (or Mozilla) browser, the spellbound spelling checker extension is great for spell checking your posts to PH. It can spell check and correct any typing in all text areas and input areas in HTML forms using an option in the context menu or button on the toolbar.
I've been playing local web filtering proxies of late. Mostly Privoxy. There's also Proxomitron which does the same sort of thing but is more tweakable.
I'll admit that I don't know exactly what I'm doing, but they seem useful for stripping out ads, banners and nasties as well as doing a few other things. You can link them to Tor if you're a really paranoid surfer...

Won't help most people but....
For project planning, I sometimes use Open Workbench (www.openworkbench.org/), which is open source, and will do most of the stuff that M$ Project will do.

Just been playing with this,
www.autopatcher.com
You install it to a network folder, and it runs on new boxes without installation. Patches them up to date hands-off, optionaly installs things like sun java, flash player, .net.
Seems quite good.
