Did a tour of the highstreet shops yesterday looking for a Nano.

Most had no stock.
One had a notice to say new iPods on their way and had old stock at a reduced price.
Two were trying to sell the old models at the old prices without any indication they are now old models.

So how is everyone finding their new iPod Touchs?

I have placed my order with Apple and am looking forward to getting it asap.

Any idea on lead times from Apple Store - U.K. ?

Placed my order with Apple online today, they quote 7-10 days.

Did try to get one from Apple at Brent Cross today, but no luck. May give the Regent Street store a call tommorow and try there (and cancel my online order if they have them).

Well mine is superb. I got it a week and a half ago via the Kingston Apple store and it has worked faultless.

Picture - The picture quality is fantastic, so good in fact that I've used a program found on tinterweb to code some of my DVD's into mp4 format (average full movie 500mb) and dropped them on. Very watchable screen. On top of that Apple have just released the first firmware update that improves picture quality, saw it on a mates touch last night and it really did jump things up a notch.

Sound - I think it is better sounding than my old Mk2 Nano. I'm using the same sure headphones and the difference is crystal clear when you switch from one to the other and listen to the same song. It gives a much richer performance without even bothering with the EQ settings.

WiFi - Very stable and remembers cookies for websites you have logged into. I have Pistonheads saved as a favourite and it always remembers me when I open the page. The virtual keyboard looks a bit daunting but is so easy to use (ie. fit the right letter) that after a few posts on here wink you will by typing double time. WiFi is switchable and its a good thing it is because there is a noticable (over say just playing music) battery drain when using it.

UI - Thing of wonder. It is so easy to use and you have to fight the urge not to just spend a few minutes jumping round the menu's just for the sake of it hehe . It's also very fast to switch between menu items.

Minus points -
It's a finger print magnet
doesn't come with a slip case like the old Video ipod
First time you synch it with itunes seemed to take forever
Slow boot up when compared with a lesser ipod

(All minor things I think you will agree)

By all accounts they will have stock - they are getting in shedloads.

Thank Civpilot. As mentioned above I am also going to try and get hold of a Touch later today at my local friendly Apple Store as the lead time on the Apple order is longer than I wish to wait. Hopefully there will be some available stock.

I was going to get a 30GB video to replace my old 4GB mini, but since the 80GB classic is now around that price (and available in silver) might have to go for that. 160GB is just absurd for a portable music player!
I rip everything at Apple lossless and my music selection on my home audio server is about 700GB, so i'm eagerly awaiting the 1TB ipod wink

I ordered mine as soon as the Apple Store came up after the announcement, and it's due to get to me on Tuesday. Apple seem to have held a lot of the online orders up until the firmware update was released yesterday (my order had been sat at 'prepared to ship' since the weekend!), but now they're shipping like mad - orders from the last three weeks or so are now shipping too.

Can confirm yesterday's firmware update (all 150MB of it!) has fixed the negative black screen issue on the early touch units. Saved me a trip to the apple store to get it replaced...

I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on mine (picked it up last saturday at the apple store opening in Solihull) - I'll be getting my mitts on it next weekend, for my birthday. The demos of the touch were fantastic to use, just as intuitive as when I first used the iPhone in June. My only real concern was the dark screen issue, but by the sounds of it, thats now fixed. The touch will make a nice replacement for my (now sold) 30GB iPod video.

I now have the new ipod Nano 8GB (enough for the car I reckon). It's impressive but will be easy to lose - it's dinky.

The Apple store in London was also impressive, in and out in 5 minutes.

Interestingly (well, nearly interesting) was that I bought a Nano online from Apple as a birthday present for someone. That was super quick and easy too.
