You can, in that the ISP will just pay BT on your behalf - e.g. Tiscali (IIRC).

Best off getting the BT line, then you have a better choice.

Make sure you check the bandwidth of your BT line first....the further from the exchange you live the lower the bandwidth. Just moved to Sky Broadband and was contemplating their 'up to 8 meg speed' only to find out that my BT line will only carry 515k or something like it so I would have been paying extra for speed I wouldn't have got!! Gone for their 'free' up to 2 meg speed and seems to work OK if a little slow sometimes.

Check if you have cable in your area as the nice man at BT suggested to me. This will give you extra speed but not sure how much cable costs...never had it.

My friend has one, but IIRC he said it doesn't do outgoing/incoming calls (one of them, can't remember which).
