I'm having this problem now. I've got Lightflow installed but it doesn't get around the problem. Has anyone found a definitive fix yet and has Google admitted it's a problem with the phone?
You have to enable the LED in the settings before it'll light up for any app.
Worth checking, definitely. Settings > Display > Pulse Notification Light

I tried Lightflow, but it seemed that if I didn't set it up for a particular app, it actually blocked the native LED notification. Couldn't be bothered to go through and manually set it up for every app, so uninstalled it again and I'm just learning to live with the stock LED.
Checked all that. If you look at the thread on the Google support site about this people have been having the same problems with the stock LED setup and/or Lightflow. Several people have had one or more replacement phones which seemed to fix the problem initially. A factory reset also worked for some people but it seems this may be a bug in the Nexus software.

Which case are you all using?

Looking for a case preferably from amazon- which will protect corners when I drop it- would likely case as slim as possible.

Camera is tosh and I use it a lot. Other than that it's a great phone, but it's one of my 'must have' features.

Google are working on a fix for the laggy shutter, apparently, but I am not very paitent. smile

This might be worth investigating if you cant wait for the official fix

I tried that (tried 1.1 and 1.3, neither really changed much).

Sold it now, just waiting on the new phone to arrive...
In the mean time I am currently using a really old HTC Wildfire. It's the slowest phone I've ever used, but there's something to be said for a tiny little phone. Already rooted and running Cyanogenmod wink

For those not aware, if you download the app for Box (cloud storage) and log in from your nexus 5 you get your account permanently upgraded to 50Gb. It should work for any LG phone, so the Nexus 4 gets it as well.

I got this Spigen case from Amazon for £9, only had the phone since Friday so can't comment on how it will fare long term but so far so good, it fits very well and protects the most vulnerable bits and even comes with a free screen protector, sounds like the kind of thing you're after.

£2.90 including screen protector (whihc isn't needed as this is a flip case) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GEZ2JUE/ref=...

Works fine, including wireless charging.

Got an almost identical case myself (Ringke Slim) and it does the job nicely.

I got the slim case mentioned in a few posts from amazon - very impressed

I was about to purchase the phone from Play store but the headline figure of £299 is misleading as they add £10 for delivery - They also dont accepty Amex so personally I was better off going to CW and buying it for 329 as the points i get by spending on my amex are more valuable for me - it also meant I had it in my hand within 2 hours of deciding i wanted the phone.

I had a gen 1 Nexus 7 before which was good for its price but I found it clunky and not very slick compared to the ipad so was not sure what to expect.

Coming from an iphone 4 so far I am loving the Nexus 5 and prefer it asthetically and for day to day use over my my OHs S4. Also m

Quick question regarding the signal strength icon...

I am on a 3g sim only contract but for data I sometimes get the H symbol and sometimes I get the 3g symbol- what is the difference?

What you need to know:

E = EDGE, dog slow, IM and maybe some basic surfing could work though
3G = Fast enough for everyday use
H(+) = Pretty damn fast
4G/LTE = Most likely faster than your home internet

You forgot G.

G = 2G, slower than a dog with 4 broken legs, it'd be easier and more reliable to send a message in a bottle across the sea.

Oddly enough, I find GPRS (G) to be faster than EDGE. I know that it shouldn't be the case but in London on Vodafone at least EDGE is the worst of the bunch. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can suggest a reason why? Something to do with contention ratios and error rates?

Can't answer that specific question, but I'm sure we're both in agreement that G or E is a pretty grim thing to have on the top bar of your phone!

Either one of them is all but unusable for virtually all (but the most basic) data purposes, I find E slightly quicker but I've not actually done any real proper testing, but I can definitely say both are pretty pathetic biggrin

When are we likely to get it though? Doesn't mention whether it improves the shutter lag or fixes the notification light issues.

Shutter lag is mentioned, no idea on notification lights. Although it mentions the possibility of snaps becoming slightly noisier.

The comparison looks fairly good. It will be a welcome update. The fact that there is a before and after pic means the fix may be released soon.
