I certainly heard stories like that. Mine developed a bit of an issue with the screen, although not cracked. Near the USB charging port, the screen has gone orange, it was annoying so I sent it back, saw no real updates on their tracking website at all, other than it was received, then fixed. They replaced both the front and rear panels and the frame of the phone (which was bent), it was essentially a new phone. So no complaints from me.

Actually there is one, the rear glass panel cracked, while on the sofa. It wasn't dropped or anything, just cracked of its own accord.

I had the screen discolouration and cracking. I was going to raise it with Sony, then it fell off the sofa and the whole back panel shattered, knew they'd argue it so just upgraded early and won't buy a Sony phone again

It is a shame they can't sort their RMA processes out, as the phones themselves are fantastic bits of kit, the experience is far too variable if there's an issue though. Luckily none of the 6 Sonys I've had have developed an issue, but if they had I suspect that 6 number might have been a bit lower.

I was actually offered an S6 Edge to replace my company Z3, but the Z3 is still running that well I couldn't see much to be gained from changing. Battery still easily last the day, it's still snappy and the software is solid as a rock.

Massively unimpressed with the z3. Just cracked the screen, for the 3rd time. I managed about 6 years with HTC without breaking one.

Battery on my Z1 compact is on the way out at 2 years old, seems to get to 40-50% and then just die.
Looking at the Z5 compact to replace it but it's a shame they've done away with the external charge port. I really like being able to drop it in the cradle rather than plug a charge cable in.

I think that's the best thing about the more recent phones. You can charge it with a plug in the bottom so if you want to use it while charging, it's easy.

And there's no need to open flaps. It's the one reason I've considered getting a Z5 to replace my Z2 although normally I'd keep a phone until it's dead (or at least isn't receiving updates)

There's a dock available for the Z5 as well, fits all 3 variants from what I can tell.

They are easy to replace, 5 minutes and done. Replaced mine with a genuine Sony article and endurance is back as new.

Couldn't be arsed with fighting Sony so have paid for my phone to be repaired, but it's tainted my view of them.

Very tempted by the iPhone SE to be honest...

Decent phone but FAR to fragile.

My Mrs smashed hers in a few weeks. Mine lasted 16 months, fell 18in onto a vinyl floor and smashed screen/digitiser, was in a case as well. Might repair it if I can be bothered.

Bought a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6. I really. really like it. Great VFM.

Interesting, how much was the battery and where from, a quick google suggests they seem to vary from £5 to £30 so I'm guessing some crap outs out there? Dissasembly looks fairly easy, did assembly work as well?

I'm finding it's sometimes very slow too, presumably not coping that well with updated software, eg it can take 10 seconds to open the camera sometimes, you have any of these issues?

When mine has done stuff like that it's usually that it's full of stuff on the phone, I try and clear 10% storage free on the phone itself all the time and that seems to help.

Get the OEM batteries, the no-name stuff can be very variable, there are genuine OEM batteries on Ebay. Assembly is easy, but I suggest getting a new back cover, again OEM, as they come with the adhesive already on them, so just put the cover on, hold it together, and it sticks.

I sometimes have lag on opening some apps etc. But have found using an app like Greenify, to shut down background apps helps with this.

Anyone running Cyanogenmod on their Xperias?

My Z1 has pretty much ground to a halt, I could wipe and re-install everything but fancy trying the different ROM route...

Haven't tried Cyanogen, I do now have Marshmallow on my Z5 Premium. It's a massive improvement, battery life has improved, phone feels much snappier. It's just been released on the Z2/Z3 Series too, so should be hitting everyone's Z's over the next couple of weeks (operator competence may vary).

Decided I fancied a new phone rather than replacing the battery on my Z1 compact. Z5 compact arrived last night. Impressed how well the fingerprint scanner works, but surprised how slippery the phone is, had it less than 24 hours and already dropped it a couple of times, luckily on to carpet with no damage. Gell case ordered for better grip.

How on earth are people breaking these phones?

Ive had mine well over a year now, its never far away from me, its been dropped, kicked, left in my pocket when working on my car, dropped in the bath and survived a toddler and a 8 month old baby too! smile

I must have the Adamantium version and not know it smile

Its also still working very well. screen spot on, camera good, battery good. Nothing broken and the OS is still rock solid. I just checked and its been switched on 37 days now without a restart.

I found mine has worked very well, it had a wobble when Lollipop came out but that's got more stable since then.

Only issue now is the battery is totally shot at 20 months old.

I sent mine off to Sony and they stuck a new battery in under warranty - could be worth a shot before it ticks over the 2 year mark.
