Don't use the switch, then. Use the Tap, Dimmer, Alexa, Siri, Wink, IFTTT or the app - that's gotta be Hue's strongpoint, its universal adoption, support and ease of use.

Unlike many other cheap-Chinese dimmables that use ancient and unreliable apps with limited integration and next to zero support.

is integration between the DOT and Fire TV Stick? My initial reading says they was not compatible but I am planning on trying this today.

(I was reading after a few glasses of port so may have got this wrong).

The Fire TV Stick appears in the devices tab in Settings on the App. Is it a flawless interaction?

Second Q - Does anyone have more than one Echo/Echo Dot about the house?

I have a dot in my lounge and an Echo in my bedroom. I can lie in bed and check my commute for delays, switch on the bedside lamp and turn the kettle on in the kitchen.

I also put music on when I go to bed with a sleep timer.

Sort of. They're designed to fit one of those back boxes but using a back plate into which the switch itself magnetically mounts. The switch is smaller and can be lifted off to be used as a remote.

You could - in theory - wall mount it using something like this:
https://www.cyberselect.co.uk/accessories-networki...

or number plate tape.

What annoys me is the Philips Hue starter kit comes with screw in bulbs at £59.99. But I don't have screw in bulbs.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/philips-hue-white-led-sm...

So you have to buy the bridge on its one for £49.99 and the bulbs are £14.99. Which puts the bayonet equivalent at £79.97

You have a "choice" of the noisy, hard to operate 75mm round tap switch or this POS:

Seems like the authorities in the US are learning what a information goldmine the Amazon Echo and Alexa is becoming.

Just spotted an order for a £100 push bike via a Dot. Listened to the voice instruction and it was my six year old son. Amazon processed the order based on his two words 'order bicycle'. Ive cancelled the order and turned off voice ordering.

How would it have known which bicycle to order? Mountain, Racing, BMX, kids, adult etc. etc. Was there one in your wish list?

I re-ordered a curry and it asked me three additional questions and it already knew what I wanted.

Exactly. It has absolutely no idea. It used the two words 'order bicycle' to choose and process an order for an Activ by Raleigh Flyte II. The order was a done deal, it would have arrived on the 28th. I've the voice recording from my son and the details of what was said by him and the subsequent order details in the Alexa app and then the full order details on Amazon.

Just spoken to my lad and he said Alexa asked him to confirm he wanted to order a bicycle and he said yes to confirm. No further questions about details or specifications, price range etc. Presumably it could have put through whatever it felt like.

No bikes in my wish list (nothing in the wish list), never shown any real interest in any pedal bikes and if I was hankering after one then it wouldn't be a £100 Raleigh!

That's hilarious, but scary! I turned off voice ordering on mine as soon as I got it.

Tried "Alexa order lamborgini" it found me a scale model with details and price and asked if I wanted to purchase it. So it still needed that confirmation of purchase. When I said no it gave me details of another model before I shut it down.

My friend has to turn off give ordering on his echo as his mate used to come round to his house and shout through the letterbox at his echo. He ordered a bulk buy of bog role once.

The very latest Fire TV Stick works with it but not any earlier versions. Mine doesn't work with it sadly so I'm looking at options. Right now I'm thinking about a full on Amazon Fire TV thing for full 4K, although my TV isn't 4K so that's another thing I need to buy.

This little Dot could cost me a fortune! Damn good excuse for an upgrade wink

Right now the list is:
Amazon Fire TV
4K TV
Soundbar/speaker thing to replace my old 5.1 Sony kit.

I have to think or type these things, I dare not speak them out loud!

Well there's a lesson in listening to what a six year old tells you. Just turned voice ordering back on and tried it for myself and Alexa did indeed explain the details of the bike and asked if I wanted to proceed. I said no so it offered a bicycle pizza cutter instead. My lad swore blind it just asked him to confirm a generic bicycle order.

I asked Amazon how to prevent it and they said turn off voice ordering, no mention of a pin. I can't see me wanting to voice order so didn't investigate further, just switched it off.
