just about to buy new iphone 5 as old one ended up in toilet. before i spend £599 whats this apple replacement? is it just for phones that have genuinly broken - ie if its my fault for drowning it will they replace it? petemurphy said:

Yes they will replace it for you, hand them your broken iPhone and £180, get a new one back in exchange va1o said:

Yes they will replace it for you, hand them your broken iPhone and £180, get a new one back in exchange On an interesting note; a couple of weeks ago whilst decorating, I dropped my Lumia 920 into a big tub of Crown Trade Magnolia Emulsion. Completely submerged. I wiped the bulk of the paint off with a tissue, disassembled the chassis, soaked the other bits in alcohol and reassembled it. Good as new 
Managed to drop my iPhone 5 into the (clean!) toilet a few weeks ago. Cue my heart rate momentarily tripling and me diving a hand in to grab it. Was probably submerged for about 3 seconds. Took it out and it worked just fine, only the loudspeakers sounded (even more) crap but after a few days they sorted themselves out. I think having the bumper on it helped in this case, but I'm a bit more careful with it now...

The Natwest thing as pointed out earlier in this thread changes policy on the 17th February. Before that the phone must be registered and they need the imei number, which can only be obtained when the phone actually works. Since my week-old phone isn't registered I'm stumped.
Getting a PAYG sim through the post that I can use in an old handset for now.

I think you'll usually receive a refurbished one as the replacement. Shouldn't be a problem with this as your original warranty will still be valid and cover you for the remaining term. srappy said:

Yes that sounds right. Apple refurbished iPhones have a new outer shell and replacement battery so appear as new. it is amazing how resilient things like this are. Generally most of the electronics are all contained on one board and within a hand full of IC packages. Very few bare connections about and generally circuits are protected from shorts and currents going the wrong way by diodes etc etc. So you can get them wet, they will go a bit funky, but if you can switch them off and get them dry (and this is the bit people always go too short on.... I'd leave it for a week or more in a hot dry place, in a bag of rice or those silica crystals) then they normally spring back to life! - That plus, now-a-days, phones are mostly sealed pieces of kit, bar a few buttons, speaker grill and connector port I think there is precious few avenues for water to get rapidly into the critical bits.
Case in point.... I spilt a whole bucket of tea into my laptop keyboard once. Yanked the power, took it apart, washed the tea out, left it in the drying room (halls of residence had a drying room, so lots of dry hot air) for a week, cobbled it back together and it fired up as if nothing had ever happened. Still worked fine when I flogged it for cheap on ebay.
Case in point.... I spilt a whole bucket of tea into my laptop keyboard once. It still worked more or less, but the screen looked weird, and it obviously had water under the glass. Took it to Vodafone to find out if it was likely to recover. "No, definitely going to die a horrible slow death".
I had to claim on the home insurance, and got a Galaxy S3 instead. Clearing out a drawer a couple of months ago, I found the HTC. The screen still looks a bit funny, but otherwise it works perfectly, and my 7yr old now has it as his favourite new toy!
