I used Vista in the office and found it terrible.

I went back to XP and it doesn't blue screen but it freezes a lot.
Your hardware is fked.

HTH

(Seriously XP 100% stable since birth on any kit I've had, Vista only complains when I "hot pull" USB devices it's trying to use...)

You can't blame the OS for your hardware choice.

Quick answer is don't upgrade. Back up, wipe and rebuild from scratch.

What I will never, ever understand is why people get excited over their PC not crashing?

If my Mac crashed, I'd be livid. I take it for granted that it doesn't.
I don't think he is excited about it - but certain people perpetuate the myth that windows bluescreens all the time. I also take it for granted that windows does not crash but I realise in some instances if configured incorrectly it may like any OS.

Windows does have it's problems, but generally as a result of people installing crap on it or messing around with it too much. We use a mix of Windows, Mac and Linux at work, and we have windows machines (albeit doing very simple processes) that haven't been rebooted in 4 or 5 years.

Is subscribing to this a good idea - you can get 10 legit copies for £190, plus other stuff too.

You understand that it's a yearly charge. So if you don't pay up each year you'll be running illegal software.

Your'e lucky, if you had Office 2003 and tried to install it then Outlook would bomb out completely until you installed SP3 for Office. That took me a good half an hour to work out. None of my other software works either, but the actual system looks good.

Does anyone know if the issues with Creative sound cards are sorted? I was running the Beta, and the drivers kept crashing/crackling.

I had the same issues with Vista when it first came out - Creative driver support is crap generally.
