Strategy 1

Drobo boxes are very nice.
If its the back up of his core business, then buy 2, populate them with 2 separate brands of drive, have one on site, one at a friends, and alternate storage?

Or....

Strategy 2

If you want it up in an online backup, don't use broadband.
Populate a series of 1tb or 2tb disks, and POST them to Amazon and they'll upload them for you, straight into the cloud.

http://aws.amazon.com/importexport/
and
http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

And then just upload the difference each week on an overnight backup.

If you main box ever goes down, you can either download the needed files, or Amazon will copy it to a device for you and post it to you....
