So how do I get files from one machine to another.
Discussion
Now I have the wireless network working (almost, it seems to drop the line now and again), I'm guessing I can go from my wireless laptop, throught the router to my wired desktop and download files from it?
I've set up the desktop so that the folder I want the stuff from is 'shared' but how do I view that from my wireless machine?
I tell you guys a little knowledge is so very dangerous!

Both machines should be showing up as network computers on the other.
So if you have two computers.
Flanagan and Allen lets say.
The laptop is called Flanagan.
If you wanted to connect to the desktop you would start windows explorer (Win key + E) select Tools>Map Network Drive
In the box type:
\Allenc$
This will create a shared drive thats got the entire harddrive on it so you just drag and drop to copy the files.

OK, so I guess I have another problem to sort first.
None of my computers cans 'see' each other so I guess I need to set the network up.
Oh God, do I have to RTFM???
I am trying to make all this stuff work on my wireless network as well and it is not easy at all. Even with instructions. Will try Plotloss' suggestion later though.
Installing the network card or configuring the wireless is only the first bit.
Assuming all your computers can see the internet, you at least know your network is working.
If you are running windows, you might also need to install "File and printer sharing" from the
Control Panel -> Network -> [your connection] -> Properties.
Select "install" and then choose "service", then "File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks"
IF you don't already have "Client for Microsoft Networks" i suspect you need that too, do it at the same time.
You will probably need your Windows install disk.
After this, you'll no doubt have to reboot, but then you should find that the computers can see each other, and assuming you login with the same username and password on both, then the original advice should apply;
\\computername\c$ - for the c driver
\\computername\d$ - for the d drive, etc, etc.
Good luck!
