Getting rid of my 1st gen iPad - how do I 'reset' it to 'factory' condition? ie back to how it was when I opened the box, as it were.
I'm sure it's easy when you know how...

Thanks in advance

Erase it from the PC, not on the device, that doesn't do a complete wipe.

Yes. Had issues when first got my iPad mini. I erased "everything" on the device on phone to apple support. Upon going back in to start as new device it new my apple ID and wifi password, not sure what else but it isn't a complete wipe.

Plug into iTunes and do that way will get everything off.

How does the iTunes wipe differ?

It should be the same. It changes the encryption, and so on, and bins the old key. How were you restoring? If you were plugged in, it could use your old backup file, maybe, and have information there to access the backup?

I wiped all the content as above, then set up as new iPad and it remembered that stuff.

Plug it into your computer, as you've got it plugged in, hold down the home and sleep/wake button, once you see the apple logo on the screen let go of the sleep/wake button and it should end up in recovery mode. This will initiate a DFU restore, which removes everything off the iPad including the firmware. Not seen anything recovered off one after this has been performed.
