If I open task manager (in windows XP Pro) after I have been useing IE to browse the web,I always have other instances of IE running. If I kill theses tasks they respawn themselves.Anyone have any idea what could be causing this.I use adaware and spybot but these show no problems. Cheers

Hi,

I was just going to post I have a problem similar.

Was using IE last night when my fire wall came up with virus detected and quarenteened. Nothing new there just doing its job. Then an advert for some kind of music downloading site popped up and wouldnt go away. I could hear teh pc working away so I locked the internet with teh firewall and closed it down.

Then I noticed a new icon on the desk top. traced this as coming from a new folder which had installed itself on my pc( I deleted this but it comes back if I go on IE)

malware and trojen keep popping up in my fire wall now even when im not on the net so something has infected my machine quite deep.

CW shredder and spybot dont find any problems but there is some kind of spyware/virus on there

I don't know what else I can do. I have a fire wall which auto updates I always update windows I have aol also spyare checking and virus checking and they still get through.

Bill gates sort yourself out Firefox any good?

Firefox is superb! Wasn't convinced despite everyone on here raving about it, but I thought I would give it a go and I love it.

You probably need a copy of hijack this to weed your latest little critter out and then a copy of firefox for future safe browsing once it's gone.

Thanks Blairout.

I have put on spyware blaster and Hi jack blaster taken from the link you posted.
opened up IE and the problem is still there. SO whatever it is Im infected with is still there.

So I just put on firefox opened it up and no adverts no new folders. I will use this in future. looks very similar so I should be able to find my way around it computer numpty that I am.

Thanks

ps just ran hijack this. Came up with lot of results most of which i dont understand . However there were entries for IE task bar ie search etc with a number after it which I m sure are spyware so I had Hijack this delete it.

If you follow the link at the very bottom of the page I posted above where it says

Related:
Browser hijackers

it should give you the info you need to clean your system.

Be careful with HiJack this it leaves what to delete up to you rather than match against a known database of spyware.
