Does anyone know of and spyware killers that are actually free. I have AVG free edition but it does not seem to kill the trojans and adware stuff. I have run a few of thr "free" ones and they all charge you $29.95 to actually delete them, spyware doctor found 551 infected files!!

Help would be greatly appreciated. Is it worth spending the 30 dollors on?

All these popups and virus detections every 10 seconds are making me

www.adaware.com

I'm not sure whether they have started charging for it yet, or how long the trial is for.

Good tools are:

Spybot.... Easy and fixes a lot of stuff. Free. Keep it up to date.
CWShredder... gets rid of that pesky coolweb rubbish. Free
Hijack this, now it's getting serious, but will get rid of most stuff. Tecchie, but free again.
lspfix, for when you find your machine can no longer get on the net after a nasty infestation. Free.

Download them all while your machine works and stick them on a USB memory stick. Sorted.

NB. Spybot is excellent as you can just install it once and update it. When you copy it to another machine, it just runs and is already up to date

Thanks for the help guys. Have run Adaware and it found loads of them but has not stopped the one that is causing me all the grief! Its Trojan Horse Dropper.small and is going to make me scream in a few minutes time if it continues to popup every time I click anything on the web!! Adaware did not stop it so what will?

Blairout, how is the Noble M12 consideration coming along. IIRC you were thinking about one on the PH Noble forum a few weeks ago. I have been looking for a little while now too, could be that there will be 2 of us in Cambs with Noble's soon?!

I think all the tools you need are free. This guide explains what you need and how to use them.

The one I was looking at got a deposit taken the day before I went to see it Just reconsidering all the options once again. I may be staying with UberBeetles and going four seater. Just not sure how I would cope without a soft top.

Know what you mean about the soft top, I was tempted to go for a 111R in order to gain a soft top and save £15k but I think the Noble is such an amazing car that its perfect even without the wind in the hair. The GTC model once penned to be released this year would have bee great (I even ordered one) but it somehow takes some of the "serious sports car" feeling away from the GTO. I think all real drivers cars should be focused on the car, handeling and performance and therefore not having a roof has to compromise this in various ways.

I would probably still buy a GTC opentop over an GTO 3R if available but think the hard top option would be the more foucsed driving enthusiasts option. all IMO

Problem is there are so many superb cars in the price range. Whichever you buy, there's always something equally nice. You know how it is when you order in a restaurant, whatever is on the other peoples plates always looks nicer.

One day I'll just take the plunge and order. For now, it's back to looking at the menu

I have found (through experience with the punters that I tend to employ and can't resist loading all sorts of detritus) that if you restore a registry from a time period prior to the noticed infestation and THEN run spybot or adaware, it seems to be better able to completely remove any problems. Also, you may want to check the "run" and "runonce" areas of your registry (if you are tecchie inclined).

Al...

Which Trojan do you have?

Do you know how to view your system restore points? (HELP AND SUPPORT - Restore)

If you know how to view your restore points, is the earliest one PRIOR to the infection?

As for the restore question NO!

BTW I'm running Windows XP home addition.

Was just going through the majorgeeks site trying to follow Major Attitude's instructions. Just got to downloading the various software.

From www.grisoft.com/us/us_remtext.php?id=bagbugnet

Virus Removal utilities and Handbooks
BackDoor.Agent.A-Z,AA-BG, I-Worm/Atack, I-Worm/Bagle.A-Z,AA-AJ,AX,BA, I-Worm/Bugbear.D, I-Worm/Netsky.A-Z, AA-AD, I-Worm/Sasser.A-F, I-Worm/Zafi.A-D, PSW.Bispy.A-E, Downloader.Agent.AS

Download the remover vcleaner.exe. Restart your computer in Safe mode and run the remover on the infected computer.

Note: Some viruses can stop the action during the removing process. In this case rename the vcleaner.exe to some different exe file (e.g. something.exe). Restart your computer in Safe mode (recommended) and run the remover on the infected computer.

Al...

Give G man's a go. It will probably do the trick. My option was going to be for a similar Symantec tool.

BTW, you should read up on restore points. It will save you a lot of aggravation...

That reminds me. Activate your Windows Update, Al. MS has a new thing that they will be providing periodically that checks out and removes certain infestations automatically. It is available for free throught the autoupdate widget...

I agree Slinky, I recommended this to AL in the other thread. It was the only thing that solved my adware issues... then of course telling my wife to use Firefox ..

AL someone else had very similar problems solved on this thread if you have not fixed it yet
